Restaurants near Luxembourg Gardens in Paris
Hello, My husband and I will be in Paris next Friday and would like to find a nice restaurant near our hotel which is near the Luxembourg Gardens. I've seen some warnings here about restaurants in that district and want to make sure our first dinner is wonderful. Thanks, Lisa

Lisa: You will find some nice restaurants near the Luxembourg Gardens, if you stay away from the 5th arr., i.e. the aast side. Rather chose one on the north or south side. Here are some I like: <BR> <BR>"Le Caméléon", <BR>6, Rue de Cheuvreuse, (traditional French), 6th arr. Tel. 43 20 63 43 <BR> <BR>"Le Bistrot du Dôme" (seafood), 1, Rue Delambre, 14th (Blvd. Montparnasse), Tel.43 35 32 00 <BR> <BR>"La Bastide" 7, Rue Corneille, 6th, 43 26 03 65 (mediterranean) <BR> <BR>"Le Bistrot d'Alex", 2, Rue Clément, 6th, Tel. 43 54 09 53 <BR>(mediterranean-South West) <BR> <BR>Have your hotel make a reservation. You will need it for a friday evening. Parisian love to go out for dinner. <BR>Enjoy it!

Sorry, I meant to write "east" side. <BR> <BR>
I second the recommendation for Le Caméléon. It's around the corner from a friend's house and I've always found it to be good value in a very authentic Parisian setting.
Thanks for the recommendations! We are counting the days...
Lisa have a great trip! <BR> <BR>If you like a small goodie from a bakery/patisserie, here's my favourite: <BR> <BR>Gérard Mulot <BR> <BR>Rue de Seine/angle Rue Lobineau (south side of Blvd. Saint-Germain). <BR>(closed on Wednesdays). <BR> <BR>.. and the best: the weather is improving over here. Beaches are open in Switzerland!
Ursula, glad to hear the weather is improving in France, I was beginning to fear that someone named Noah was building an ark there and no one had told us in the USA that it was happening!!!
Fleur: Yes, I hope we are through these real bad times. Everybody going to Paris can think about taking some other colours than black. But, please, not a pink jogging dress! ;-)
Ursula, <BR> <BR>Have your ever been to the Polidor? If so, what did you think of it? <BR> <BR>Thanks, <BR> <BR>Charlotte
Charlotte bonjour! The Polidor was I place I regularly went to when I was living in Pari as my budget was rather tight. It is still very popular and crowded with locals and tourists. I guess still good value. Have not been there for some time. Now, I can allow myself to splurge at bit more and I like to discover places I've never been to (like the Korova, Man Ray or Spoon, La Contre-Allée). Maybe somebody else has been there recently. You might find infos at www.parisavenue.com (however, the French version with "fr" gives more infos). They have "Top 10s" for some places and I think the Polidor is among them for typical winter dishes. Check it out.
Toping for Charlotte. <BR> <BR>"Le Polidor" IS indicated at parisavenue.com (restaurant section) under Top Ten "Cheap Eats". So, I guess it is still very popular and good. <BR> <BR>Parisavenue is the Paris guide of "Le Figaro" newspaper. They can't allow themselves to indicate bad places.

Le Cameleon has gone way downhill. Too much travel board and tour guide exposure maybe. Even KVF (StCirqs friend around the corner) no longer recommends it.
Thanks for the update, Jim. KVF and I had dinner there last year and it was just great. I'm having lunch with KVF on Monday (not in Paris, unfortunately) and will verify. Places can certainly lose their caché, and their reputations, quickly through overexposure.
Jim/StCirq:I am sorry to hear that about "Le Caméléon". But it's true, the quality of a place can change very quickly. I think this is the same in every city. <BR>Let's check out others, like "La Régalade", 14th, I think Ave du Maine. <BR>PS: Oh, I liked "Le Rond de Serviette, 97, Rue du Cherche-Midi, 6th (not that close to Luxembourg Gardens though).
StCirq: Have you been to "La Régalade"? <BR> <BR>PS: It's at 49, Ave Jean-Moulin, 14th <BR>(and not Ave du Maine)

We love the Bistro du Dome. Went there just Saturday night. It's uncomplicated. Great seafood, the owners are the same as Le Dome on the corner and the seafood market accross the street. It's smaller, nice crowd, chalkboard menu with a handful of entrees, plats and desserts only. Great find.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations...we are leaving tomorrow afternoon and staying for 10 days. I'll report back when we return. Au Revoir!

Rigalarde is fantastic but make reservations way in advance. Lots of chefs eat there on their day off. They start you off with a pass along pate that is so tasty.
