Restaurants near Carpentras or St. Remy

We're leaving Wednesday for France! After a week in Paris, we'll be going to Troyes, then Nancy and then Dijon. Following that we have 5 days in Provence - 3 at Chateau Talaud, which is near Carpentras and 2 in St. Remy.

I can't seem to find any recent resto recommendations - can anyone help. We're probably thinking moderate to a bit more expensive.

Any recs for Troyes and Nancy?

Thanks,
Barbara

Near Gordes in Les Imberts (not terribly far from Carpentras) is Le Mas Tourteron, which has an excellent reputation.

The town of Paradou is not far from St-Rémy, and on the road between Fontvielle and Maussanne-les-Alpilles (NOT in the town of Paradou!) you will find the Bistrot du Paradou. It's a family-style restaurant with a set menu for lunch and dinner. There are, however, a number of choices for starters and desserts; the cheese course comes on a cutting board that's just left on the table for you to help yourselves. Be sure to reserve in advance, as the restaurant is very popular with the locals.

Thanks, Grandmere. I will put it on my list. Have you eaten there recently?

Sounds great, Underhill. I've heard good things about that restaurant. Is there a choice of main dishes?

Here are our favorites up by Carpentras:
- Chateau de Mazan in Mazan - nice outdoor setting next to the Chateau

- l'Oustalet in Gignodas. outdoor setting on the square in Gigondas

- les Florets in Gigondas - very colorful outside dining area. Not as nice inside.

- le Grand Pre in Roaix - Michelin 1 star. Excellent food

- le Brin d'Oliver in Vaison

We've dined at most of these multiple times - as recently as '07. We've tried about a dozen others - but these were our favorites.

Do not recommend Crillon la Brave.

I'm not a big fan of Bistro du Paradou - but we've only given it 1 try. There was no menu choice when we were there - just dry, med-well done leg of lamb with no sauce.

We had an excellent dinner at Valentino in Troyes.

Stu - once again, thank you. You have helped me so many times. Could you please tell me where Roaix is?

Can anyone recommend a good restaurant in St. Remy?

I'm one who loves the bistro du paradou (no choice in menu - Friday is the grand aioli) in Paradou, and Les Florets in Gigandas, and the Mas des Tuorteron(one of the best woman chef in Provence and dining in a delightful garden)

Roaix is just north of Rasteau & west of Vaison.

Margie compiled some files for our trip to Provence in October, 2007, organizing them by village. We carried them in our laptop, and in my PDA for rapid searching on the road. One is culled from a list provided to us by Fodor's poster "PBProvence", and other Fodors posters. The other is mostly from the Slow Travel web site.

I've put them online, to make them readily available, so that I don't have to individually e-mail them to people. You can see them, and download them, from:

Our group had dinner one evening at Dame O'ie in Pernes les Fontaines. Everything we had was absolutely wonderful! It's a very small restaurant just off the main street in Pernes. My fois gras was like silk in the mouth! And the rabbit with lavender is still a dream in my head!

Enjoy!

Oops! Just realized you've come and gone! Hope you do a trip report. However, great restaurant ideas for Provence!

What a vacation! Going to a nice area and feeling that you have to go on a treasure hunt to find a place to eat! That's not a holiday to me.

If anyone goes to the Bistro du Paradou, please give me an update as the wonderful Jean Louis has sold the place.
