Restaurants in the 14th
 

I'll be in Paris next month for 4 days and will be staying at the Mercure Raspail in the 14th. I have come up with a list of restaurants that sound good to me.

L'Entetee
L'Antelier d"Antan
Les Petites Sorcieres
La Ceriasaie
L'Assiette
L'Amuse Bouche
Les Fils de la Ferme
L'Ordonnance
Severo

I prefer smaller places where a simple 3 course meal is in the 30 - 50 euro range. Any comments on these places would be appreciated.

I have Fodor's Paris 2011 Guide. It's fun to see the comments of regular contributors in the book. I took kerouac's advice and am staying a bit further out then usual. Our double room on Raspail is 110 euro a night. We paid about that 4 years ago staying in a very simple 2 star hotel in the 6th.

We stayed in the 14th on our first trip and enjoyed it. Have stayed in a few other areas, but will be back in the 14th for our trip this summer. So I hope you report back on what you find:)

I often stay in Paris in that particular location, actually (or within a couple blocks, anyway). But I'll admit I don't know those restaurants you name. Probably because I don't go that far for dinner, I think they could be far from your hotel (I mean not within a couple blocks, I usually don't travel for dinner). L'Assiette is over near Pernety metro, I believe, but it should be good from what I've heard, and I think others are near Denfert metro stop or rue d'Alesia. I'm just lazy, I don't like traveling for dinner too much but there are a lot of good places in the entire arrondisement.

You might consider a couple that are good which I do know and that are very close to your hotel -- Le Cameleon on rue de Chevreuse and Chez Fernand on bd Montparnasse just about a block east of bd Raspail. Of course, the Dome and Bistrot de Dome are good for seafood, but not super cheap.

Here's what I wrote after a trip in Oct 2009. We also ate at Le Severo that trip and really enjoyed it. If you are close to either end of the rue Daguerre a stroll up it will give you a pretty good number of restaurants to choose from.

"Au Vin des Rues, a wine bar / restaurant just off rue Daguerre in the 14th. We chose it by strolling down rue Daguerre and looking at various restaurants there and down side streets. It was a cozy place, with the menu on a chalkboard, and we amused ourselves by trying to guess if the younger servers were the son and DIL, daughter and SIL, or sibling children of the owner. <g> My in-laws definitely felt they were getting an authentic French experience—we were probably the only tourists in the place. From their side of the table they could see into the kitchen and had a great time watching the goings-on there."

Thanks for the response. Yes, most of these restaurants are probably a 15-20 minute walk from the hotel. We enjoy a bit of a walk after dinner. I came up with these choices mostly from Michelin and Gayot reviews. We've enjoyed their recommendations for other parts of Paris. We just avoid the expensive ones like Le Dome.

I just enjoyed reading your trip report from your October 2009 visit to Paris. You have a great writing style. Both Le Severo and Au Vin des Rues sound like fun. We'll make sure to make a reservation at Le Severo.

Several of those have been reviewed by a couple of food bloggers, look on Paris Update, or John Talbott etc... I'm planning on trying L'Ordonnance myself in April...

I like the original Chez Papa, along the wall of the Montparnsse cemetery (rue Gassendi), but it would be hard to spend more than 25€ there unless you drink like a fish.

Only ones on their list I've tried are Le Dome and La COuple, both excellent

Brasserie Fernand has a 16 Euro prix-fixe lunch, a great deal. Severo for steak, and Ceriasaie for sure. Le Dome is expensive and worth every sou.

La Vache au Comptoir, 13 rue d'Odessa. Try any dish cooked in their special sauce whose name I forget but the owner bought the patent for it and only 3 cooks in the world have it. This sauce is to die for! Prices are very reasonable and dishes are served with their home-made fries. They are specialized in Black Angus beef although that wonderful sauce was served with poultry when I was there. The menu is not extensive, it is more about quality.

I feel a little uncomfortable recommending a meat place being mainly vegetarian myself but I make exceptions when I am invited as was the case there. They have good wines too.
