Restaurants in Tallinn, Vilnius and Riga

Can anyone help me with restaurant suggestions for Tallinn, Vilnius and Riga?

Iyll try to suggest some in Tallinn. The restaurant scene changes so fast in all those three towns, that I will not risk it with Riga and Vilnius, since it is over two years I have visited those. And I have not been in Tallinn in 10 months now, so there could be a dozen new good ones now. And some old dead and gone. But here are some:

Bonaparte: an excellent French one, and not cheap. Something for anniversaries etc. Food is really good, atmosphere stylish and calm, forks and knives heavy genuine silver... That kind of place. They also have a cheaper bistro type place downstairs.

Olde Hansa: medieval. A big place in three stories, menu is medieval foods (made together with historians), waiters are in medieval dresses, and some nights there is a trio or quartet that plays medieval music.

Must Lamm: Caucasian. I have eaten there twice, and I loved it. But if you are afraid of cream and butter it is not for you. If you decide to forget all diets for a while, try their mushroom soup. It is great.

Vanaemy juures (chez grandmother): Estonian, sort of like a visit to your grandmother. Small, so it is good to make a reservation.

Kuldse notsu kyrst (or kotsu nyrts or something like that): a new Estonian place. I have heard good things about that.

Eestitall: Estonian. If you want to try bear meat this is the place.

Controvento: a very good Italian one.

Maiasmokk: Tallinnys oldest cafy. It has been in the same house for almost 300 years already. Wonderfull cakes, and also lunches.

OK, looks like Fodors does not understand some Estonian letters. It turns all those a's and o's with two dots on top of them into y's.

epi,

I had already posted a reply to your former thread concerning Riga restaurants.

You had also gotten a reply (I think from Kavey) reg. Restaurants in Tallinn.

Do a search of these- eating options are manifold and the advice, I hope, well worth following.

To summarize it for Riga:
Charlestons for nice atmosphere and good international food
Vincents for upscale dining experience and outstanding food at comparably affordable prices (chef has catered for numerous famous people on visits to Riga)
Symposium for romantic atmosphere and good quality Mediterranean cuisine (at slightly higher prices, but still o.k.)
Staburags or Alu Seta (or other of a chain called Lido like Vermanitis and Lido atputas Centrs, only Staburags offering full service) for authentic Latvian cuisine with a rustic touch.
Also good: Otto Schwarz in Hotel de Rome and Seasons and Orangerie in Grand Palace Hotel and Piramida in Park Hotel Ridzene. Those are somewhat more expensive though and I'd stick with the rest.
Capri for icecream
Lulu for take out pizza
Osiris for leisurely breakfast.

Enjoy

I recommended a number of Tallinn restaurants in a recent thread:

We also ate at Old Hansa but weren't so impressed with the food. Pete did like their warmed honey beer though.

:-D

Elina Thanks - I think "Vanaemy juures" is the restaurant I refer to as Grandma's - I didn't remember the Estonian name.

We also ate at Must Lamma - and we also enjoyed the meal a lot - but we went at lunch time which was empty so no ambience, I expect evenings are better.

PS Thanks again for your help when I planned my trip last year - and for the recommendation of Latsipalatsi in Helsinki!

LLC,

could you be more specific?

What more info do you desire- places mentioned are still in place (the post is not that old) and operative.

Will try to help if I can, but need your preferences!

Cheers
hsv
