Restaurants in Saint Germaine area

My trip is getting close now. Any tips for restaurants in the Saint Germaine area that are not too touristy and won't break the bank?

What's your budget?

Well you should go to Polidor in the Latin Quarter, been running for 100 years plus. Yes, the tourists go, but so do the French. On our last trip, found Les Papilles over near Luxembourg Gardens and since then, found it very consistently well rated and quite popular. Off the beaten path, where would recommend you stay (that is, off Blvd. St.Germain). Small menu but freshly and well prepared. Also would recommend Da Rosa Epicerie Cantine, believe sandwiches are available there as well as provisions, indulge yourself with the sauterne soaked raisins covered in chocolate. Had daughter bring 3 bags home to me last year, the best souvenir ever.

What do you want to eat? That should be the criteria.

Polidor has become very touristy with fewer locals in the last 20 years. If you go there try the lemon tart and the beef burgundy. They're known for their pumpkin soup. It's not nearly as much fun as it used to be.

Would like to keep it to around 125 euro a night. Not looking for elaborate food, just something authentic. We could always do lunch too and eat something light at night. If you have any lunch or dinner places I would be interested.

Ok, then perhaps Les Bouquinistes, left bank on Seine. Hmm, perhaps for lunch. But Polidor, so historic, and who doesnt want to be where movies were shot? The bathroom, the napkin pigeon-holes, and yes the beef burgundy. Nostalgia.

Oh yeah - the bathroom. You'll want to use the facilities before you get there!

What movies were shot at Polidor?

We like Bouquinistes a lot. Also Fish and L'Epi Dupin. There are a lot of good restaurants in the 7th, too.

Le Comptoir.... It depends on what you order as far as price. Go at lunch. We love the area it is in and it's a favorite of ours.

Try Relais de L'entrecote...it only has steak and frites, but it is SO good...tons of locals there every night...sauce on the steak is very good...your dinner is served in 2 halves so that you get a replenishment of hot steak and hot frites...I was there again last October and it was as good as I remembered it...it's on the rue st Benoit
