Restaurants in Provence
 

We'll be renting a house near the village of Bedoin for a week this summer, and would love restaurant recommendations. I've found some threads on restaurants in/nr ST Remy, but am looking for additional recommendations, perhaps closer to Bedoin. Outdoor dining sounds particularly appealing, but all suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

We rented a house near Gordes a few yrs. ago; we liked Mas de Cure Bourse, near Isle sur la Sorgue. Also, we did a day trip to Moustiers Ste. Marie, to the east--beautiful scenery-- and ate at Les Santons, in a lovely setting in that mountainside village.

Both these restaurants have outdoor dining:<BR>Mas des Vignes - Bedoin (beautiful view)<BR>Du Vieux Four - Crillon-le-Brave (the village next door to Bedoin)<BR><BR>

Several years ago I enjoyed a stay at Les Geraniums, hotel-restaurant in Le Barroux, 5km or so NW of Bedoin. I thought the food was very good and not expensive. We could have eaten outdoors if the Mistral had not been howling. The village is also interesting with a castle at the very top. Hope you have better weather!

Thanks for the suggestions, and keep them coming!<BR><BR>Sue, I'm curious about your trip to Moustiers. I'd love to do that -- how long did it take you from Gordes? And did you do any walking or rafting in the gorge while you were there?

I think it took about a couple of hours (this was in May-not this year; have heard that in high season the traffic can get bad), but we took our time, stopping for pix,in Riez, of Roman ruins, fields of poppies, etc. We did not do any rafting, etc., but did see the beautiful Gorge du Verdon. A worthwhile trip, I think. Since we were there someone has opened an upscale (Michelin starred, perhaps) restaurant near Moustiers; can't remember name of it. However, Les Santons is charming, with good food and ambience, and should be reserved in advance.

all those suggestions are right on. We stayed at the mas Bourse and the chef Mde Donze is one of the top female cooks in Provence. Geraniums and Santos we have dined and can say Santos is better. We loved and stayed at The Crillon Le Brave and The Bastide de Moustier.

La Bastide de Moustiers, that's it! Does it have a star or two, Mimi? Supposed to be wonderful, regardless!

We had lunch last year at the Bastide de Moustiers and were surprisingly not impressed at all. Reporting this on the bonjourparis board we were answered with some not so positive comments by others. The town of Moustiers Ste. Marie is really charming and was the best excursion we took.

That's too bad, but important to know, Ron. Guess it's back to Les Santons for a good and reasonable meal. I love the little village, too--and my couple of pieces of faience that I bought there!

The little village of Fontvieille, which isn't too far from your hotel, would be a nice choice at the Hotel La Regalido, with a nice garden area and a fantastic restaurant. Some of my most memorable meals in France were there.

The two best meals I have had in Provence were at Le Pr&eacute;vot&eacute; in Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and the Jules C&eacute;sar in Arles. Bon app&eacute;tit!

Seconding Wayne's suggestion "Regilido"<BR>The chef/owner's daughter has a lovely small boutique where you can purchase unusual gifts. He also sells wine so we were able to save time one night when invited to dinner and wanted to bring wine. another charming outdoor dining spot with another great wpmen chef is in Les imberts, outside Gordes , The Mas de Toureton.
