Restaurants in Prague and Budapest
 

My wife and I are going to spend three nights in Prague, then a Danube river cruise and then three night in Budapest during August. We were looking for some restaurant recommendations in these two cites.

Bellavista. Great food! Great pivo! Great view! Read and see all about it. We had refreshments there one afternoon and dinner the following evening.

In Prague, U Modre Kachnicky ( the Blue Duck), the original location..traditional Czech in lovely old home.

We ordered the grilled salmon and butter-fish.
Excellent!
Best meals we had on our entire 3-week trip.
We returned two more times for the fish meals.
Reasonably priced. Take the trolley to
Podolsky Pistav. It is locatd right next to the river.

I know the Blue Duck in Prague has a good reputation, but the only thing I enjoyed of my meal there was the Pilsner Urquell.

In Budapest, I highly recommend the venerable and tiny pastry shop, Ruszwurm Cukrászda in the old area of Buda near the castle. They serve the rightfully famous cream pastry or kréme, which maitaitom knew and enjoyed as the Bled Cream Slices.

In Prague this weekend we ate at and enjoyed both Kampa Park (the grilled octopus with bacon foam was one of the better dishes I have had this year) and V Zátiší. Both, however, are probably overpriced.

We ate at so many great restaurants in Budapest. I just don't remember the names. 2 that stand out were the cafeteria style restaurant on the 2nd floor of the central market. My DH had a hungarian paprika beef that 2 yrs. later he is still raving about. The meal I can't forget was at an upscale cafe with outdoor seating across the street and in front of St. Stephens, (on the pedestrian mall). Yum! Actually not 1 bad meal in Budapest or Prague!

We just returned from a trip to Prague and Vienna. We enjoyed our dinners at the Blue Duck, Artisan Restaurant and Cafe and a few others which I can't remember right now. I loved Prague! We, too, did not have a bad meal in Prague or Vienna.

The restaurant is the Blue Duckling.

Budapest:

Kasca Restaurant in Lower Buda is excellent for upscale dining. Paprika Vendeglo - 72 Dózsa Gyðrgy Ut is great for family style meals like a plate-filling schnitzel . . .

I second thingojus and vote for David in Prague!

I also loved Restaurant David in Prague (once we found it!). It was probably our favorite meal there. We also ate at Kampa Park, which has lovely outdoor area with a great view overlooking the bridge, but it's a little overpriced and we didn't like it as much as David.

For a casual Czech meal with litres of beer check out Kolkolvna in Stari Mesto or Mala Strana. They have a great menu and nice atmosphere. For good French food, I like Chez Marcel.

Also a place that is translated as Cat in the Sack, it is over near the Moulin Rouge and quite good. I have eaten there twice and enjoyed both times.
