restaurants in Paris - opera area

i would appreciate suggestions for casual and non-french cuisine restaurants and bistros in the OPERA area - the map also refers to the area as 8e

thanks

There is a place called Willy's Wine Bar in the Opera area that is owned by a couple of Brits (I think). The food is quite good, but I'm not sure it would qualify as "non-French." Call ahead to get a table.

Also owned by the Brits who own Willy's Wine Bar is Macéo on the rue des Petits Champs - but it's definitely not no-French. 'The whole area is Asian, so if you're committed to non-French (why?), you should have no problem finding Chinese, Japanese, Thai, etc., in the area.

I ate at Bofinger a brasserie near the opera and it was very good. It's at 3 Rue de Bastille.

Sorry, blondiepopo, that's the wrong opera. Apparently forest was referring to the Garnier opera, since 8e is really primarily west of there, including the Champs Elysees.

The Garnier Opera is clearly in the 9th, though, so that map you have is wrong and you might get a better one. The 8th is about 5-6 blocks to the west of the Opera building. The 2nd is just a bit south of it, though, it's almost on the border of 9/2.

Well, I've been in Cafe de la Paix right near it (on the place) which is quite nice, but it's not casual (and is pretty French, I guess, although not sure what that is ruling out foodwise). I don't think you'll have a problem if you just walk on some of the major streets around there, though, as St Cirq said.

I suspect that the area forest was referring to around a specific hotel was informally dubbed by them as "the opera area" and since the hotel is in the 8th, they also mentioned that. I don't think he has a map that is wrong, they are just taking a little artistic license with the knicknames for the specific area around the hotel, probably the eastern end of the 8th, which borders the 9th near the opera Garnier. Am I right forest?
