Elizabeth,

It's been a while since I've been in Verona, but I remember a great self-serve style eatery in the main Piazza where the Arena is located. I can't seem to recall the name, but if it's still there, you can't miss it -- it has green awning in front. It was very inexpensive and very good quality for the price. There is also a nice outdoor eating area under the awning. Hope that helps. I found that selecting prix fixe menus were also very good for the price. Hope this helps.

Elizabeth,I think the restaurant that Kathy has described is Brek which really is very good.

Had great pizza at the Pizzeria Ristorante Liston, Viccolo Listone, one block from Pizza Bra. Also ate at La Greppia, also very good but a bit pricey. Pumpkin tortelloni to die for.

Elizabeth, the others are right--it's Brek's on Piazza Bra! We loved it! Another delightful restaurant with really nice ambiance and very good food was right across from the Teatro Romano. Redentore is the name and it is on via Redentore n.15. We aren't big spenders but like pleasant places with nice ambiance and clean--it fit the bill. Enjoy! We would go back to Verona in a minute--except that there are so many places we haven't seen! This time Bologna gets a little time---been there? Any suggestions for hotel/pension, restaurants?

In Padua- I'd recommend Osteria l'Anfora in Via dei Soncin or Dotto (1920's style) with home-made goodies.
In verona- Al Bersagliere in Via dietro Pallone (traditional Veronese food)
In Bologna Lamma in Via dei Giudei (no frills fare but good quality)
more up market is Pappagallo in the historic centre
