restaurants in normandy
Hi,
We will be staying near Bayeux for 3 nights in September. Someone suggested a restaurant called La Maree in Grandchamp but I could not find it anywhere on the web. Would it be listed under something else? We prefer fish restaurants to heavy French food but everyone seems to like Le Petit Bistrot so we should try that. We will have a car and are staying at Chateau Cheveniere and will probably have dinner there one night also. Thanks for any help, jjashworth |
We tried Le Pommier and enjoyed our meal very much there. Sorry - not familiar with the other one you listed.
|
We had a very nice meal at Le Petite Bistro last summer. The other place we had dinner in town was La Fringale, which we actually liked a bit more.
|
May I suggest Le Pommier? We have eaten there about five times and we can't get enough of their food. Their fish dishes are always delicious and the apple tart is out of this world! My husband is still talking about their goat cheese salad. Also the restaurant at Lion d'Or (sp) is excellent.
Have a great time! |
We'll be there too, so thank you for this post. I'm looking forward to trying some of these places.

La Ronconnière is a Ferme Auberge of the XVIc. You'll love it.
It's on the road from Arromanches towards Caen at Crepon. La Marine at Port en Bessin is reputed as is La Marie du Port. In Bayeux La Table du Terroir. On Omaha beach L'Omaha is a good place to eat. |
Hi jjash,
We enjoyed le Pommier as well - we went 2 nights. The food is good and the service welcoming. For a lot less money but also very good (if less ambience) try le Petit Normand. The country salad is so good... and the chocolate cake. gruezi |
Another big vote for Petit Bistro. It was the best meal we had on that entire trip to France. Make reservations.

We also had a great meal at Le Petit Bistro, but our favorite in the area was in Caen, le Bouchon du Vaugueux, which we ran across by chance. It was tiny, intimate, full of locals, and the food was delicious. I've mentioned it several times here, and so far no one has ever reported back having gone there. If you're going to Caen to the Peace Museum, I'd heartily recommend planning it around dinner at the Bouchon. Below is a review.

Thank you, grandmere. I'm bookmarking this and will try to find it while we are there then I'll get back to you!
|
It's at 12, rue Graindorge, in a pedestrianized area of Caen; I have no idea of how to tell you to get there! We did not have reservations and had to stand outside for 45 minute waiting for a table. Best to make reservations:

We had hoped to eat at Le Petit Bistro, but it was closed that night. Instead we wound up just across the street at an excellent restaurant, La Fiorentino, with a French/Italian menu. My husband had a wonderful dish containing a dozen sea scallops topped with escargots, all on a vegetable roux; I had a very nice pizza with a bolognese sauce, quite delicious and unusual.

We have had two very nice and reasonably priced meals - on trips several years apart - at L'Auberge les Peupliers in Giberville (not far from Caen).
|
Thank you all for your suggestions. We have so many choices. We will report back after the trip!

Just ate at Le Pommier tonite, and I will agree with all posters on thgis restaurant. It is cute, the food was absolutely wonderful, especially the salad, filet mignon of pork, and especially the Apple Tartain. Will definately go back!

went back again, and everything again fantastic. Will stay another night just to eat here again. Another night of Apple Tartin.

we liked le rapier in bayeux and also the restaurant at Lion D'Or hotel. both were wonderful dinners with great food and ambience.
