restaurants in Giverny at night
 

We can't drive at night (too old..don't see well), if we get to Giverny after our long CDG flight and dinner isn't till 7 or so are there other restaurants in town other than La Musardiere. (this hasn't gotten good reviews) I mean things we can walk to. We are foodies but.......

The Fodor book mentions Les Jardins de Giverny but says it's closed Sunday through Friday???..this seems odd. Why not say open Saturday???.may be a misprint.

I do see that some bed and breakfast places in Giverny have meals..has anyone stayed in any???

Thanks so much. Hubby wants me to plan the whole itinerary so we know where are going..at least when we get in for the first few days. I think we will have to eat lunches in major towns to avoid driving at night unless we can find hotels with restaurants walking distance away.

there's a lovely hotel restaurantin Giverny called Les jardins of Giverny. We had lunch there (but the site says no lunch,) I'll try to find it for you.

On the D 5, on the right side of the road coming from Giverny. Closed Sunday night and Monday as well as in February.
It’s not Claude Monet’s garden but it has charm anyway. No lunch here, reserved for aperitifs. The cuisine is traditional French cuisine in a Louis XVI dining room. You can start by taking an aperitif in the garden and then a Normandy cuisine. Besides, it’s this establishment that was visited by Clemenceau, Aristide Briand and a lot of other “stars” of the beginning of the century. You can still see their horse ring on the wall. Menus for 21 € (except on weekends), 27.50 and 37 €, complete with “trou normand” (sorbet de cidre fouette au calvados) served in the middle of dinner to ease digestion!. Excellent regional specialties and sea products ((notice a few plats served with seaweed). Good initiative: each plat is accompanied by an advice to choose the adequate wine. A very classy and…expensive address.

This restaurant Les Jardins de Giverny...we read about that.Sounds great Is it in Giverny itself or would we have to drive there?...again we have the problem of driving at night but if it's just "down the block"..no problem.

Les Jardins de Giverny is 1 km outside Vernon. It's closed Mondays and Sunday evenings.

Lois! There should be no problem making the Smileys work with your Mac. Just type the little code and the little picture will appear in your post. For example, for the ((L)), just type a capital L enclosed with two pairs of parentheses. Makes no difference if you have a Mac or PC.

When are you going to be in Giverny? Monet's house and gardens are closed part of the year.

As for some restaurants being closed on Saturday night, you will find that in France restaurants are closed the entire week-end. It's a good idea to consult the red Michelin Guide in advance so you don't end up hungry.

Won't be there till next September...at the rate I am designing the itinerary I will need all the time. I will look up Monet's gardens as to time..thanks.

Sorry! I meant to say that SOME restaurants in France, even in Paris, are closed on the week-end. You might ask whether one of the B&Bs in Giverny offer evening meals to guests.

The red Michelin Guide is quite thick. But you can always photocopy the pages for the areas you'll be visiting--and you can buy the guide after you arrive in France.
