restaurants in Copenhagen

I love good food that's local or world class in character. I also love to avoid other tourists, not because I'm a snob but because restaurants that get a lot of tourists usually aren't very good and the locals know the best places.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Kommandanten is outstanding, I think it has two Michelin stars. Kong Hans is also excellent. Both are quite expensive and I didn't have to pay, my Danish business partner took me to both. He also took me to Krogs Fiskeresteraunt even though I told him I'm not a seafood fan . . . everybody else in my group thought it was spectacular.

I spent my own hard earned money at Saint Gertrud's Kloster. The food was very good and the setting is . . . old with LOTS of candles. I'd go again. I'd also spend money at any restaurant on Grybrydre Torv (Grayfriar's Square). It's a quintessential European square with a dozen or more al fresco restaurants . . . I like Peder Oxe and Jensen's Bofhaus, neither are pricey or pretentious.

Have fun!

To add to Snoopy's list on Grayfriar's Square, I like Philippe's. But the best I found on my trip last month was Degas on Jernbanegade, a short street off the City Hall Square. Prices are moderate. Reserve. The clientele is mainly Danish, and it was filled every night I was there.

If you're looking for something original Danish I would suggest 'Det lille Apotek' (Store Kannikestryde,15) and 'Restaurant Graabroedre Torv 21' (Groebroedretorv,21). More details on www.det-lille-apotek.dk/; www.graabroedre21.dk/ .
In general all cafes and restaurants on Graabroedre Torv (Grey Brothers' Sq.) have a very nice atmosphere and perfect to have lunch - you can sit there in the sun and enjoy your 'smoerrebroed' and a beer.
For more information visit www.aok.dk - a very useful resource on everything that's happening in Copenhagen: where to stay, where to go and what to see, where to eat and drink, etc.

The "Alberto K at the Royal" at the top floor of Architect Arne Jacobsen's famous hotel Radisson SAS Royal Hotel in the heart of Copenhagen is a wonderful experience. A unique Scandinavian-Italian gastronomy in a setting of Danish design with the most beautiful view over Copenhagen.
