The finest that I know of is Le Neptune, though I haven't personally tried it. Well known for its seafood and attractive outdoor patio dining/garden that overlooks the old port. Tel 04 68 82 06 05. I believe there might be some reviews here on Fodors if you do a search.

We had a very enjoyable dinner at La Frégate (Hotel/Restaurant) at 24 Quai de L'Amirauté Tel 04 68 82 06 05. The inside dining-room is more formal than the quai-side tables, with Catalan-inspired tile decoration and food. They had a Spanish ham & cheese rolled together as an appetizer that I still dream about!

In case you will have a car, our best meal in this area, however, was next town over in Banyuls at Al Fanal right on the waterfront on Av. Fontaulé. Seafood is the specialty, and not only is it beautifully presented in healthy portions, it is fresh and delicious. Excellent wine list (wine by the glass avail too if I remember). Just as many locals/habitués eating when we were there as there were tourists--always a good indicator IMO. Reservations a must Tel 04 68 88 00 81. I'm not one for "nautical themed decoration" that it has, but I willingly would overlook this and eat there again in a heart beat.

We loved Collioure! Be sure to visit the interior of the church at the harbour. It looks so plain and boring from the outside, but the retables inside are exceptional and worth the required euro inserted into the slot to turn on the lights. Hope the weather is good for you.

In Collioure, I recommend "Le 5ème Péché", 18 rue de la Fraternité.

Thanks so much for your very helpful replies, I think we'll try both the restaurants you each recommended. I have seen La Neptune mentioned, but not the others. Thanks so much!

A second for Le Fregate, very nice interior with lovely tiles on the walls and even the ceilings. Solid, traditional food and service.
