Restaurants in Avignon
Hello Fodor's People
I will be in Avignon this March and would Love some recommendations on Restaurants in this French Town. Staying at Bristol Hotel if anyone's got info on the Hotel, I'd appreicate that too. Thanks Theresa |
The best meal we had in Avignon was at the Grand Cafe, behind the Palais. food was very, very good. I recommend booking in advance, as many people were turned away the night we were there, including obvious regulars. Also a pretty stylish crowd; lots of black. Not extremely cheap but worth every penny.
We ate lunch at Le Bistro Lyonnais on the rue de la Carreterie, an unpromising street out near the university. Lots of academic types, almost all eating the daily special. Fabulous bread. Le Patron lived in Canada and speaks good English. He will sit down at your table and chat. Note that he is a big John Kerry fan and hosted an election party for all the expats in the area back in 2004. Classic provincial restaurant, much of the food except the specials a bit overpriced. Specials good value. |
Hi Theresa,
We were in Avignon for a day this past December, and had lunch in a restaurant called "Le Petite Peche". It's very small, on a side street, and no one spoke English, but it was the one of the best meals of our trip. Mainly seafood (as the name implies!), which was simply prepared, but wonderful. And reasonably priced, too. The address is: Le Petite Peche 13 Rue Sainte-Etienne tel: 04 90 86 02 46 Have a wonderful time in Avignon, it's a great town! |
I thoroughly enjoyed La Fourchette and L'epicerie. At L'epicerie, if you sit outdoors, you'll be in the shadow of a beautiful 12th century church.

It was long ago we spent a night at the Bristol located on a main street.
But I have dined on another trip at: Heily Lucculas, Bain Marie, Cafe De Artistes, Christian Etaine(hope I'm spelling the names correctly, The Vielle Fontaine at the Hotel. D'Europe |
Our favorite restaurant in Avignon is La Fourchette. We have eaten there three times over the past 2 decades and have had a lovely time and delicious food each time. Can't wait to return.
