Restaurants in 7th

Have rented an apartment for 2 weeks on rue du Champ de Mars in 7e. Need help with suggestions for cafes in area. Thanks.

Le P'Tit Troquet on rue de l'Exposition is a wonderful little Parisian restaurant. Never read a bad review and our dinner was wonderful!!!

Fontaine de Mars on rue St. Dominique is also very close and just kind of around the corner from P'Tit Troquet.

Enjoy! That area is lots of fun. Rue de Grenelle is a great street also.

Chez Rene

I can second Le P'tit Troquet. Also, Au Bon Accueil is very nice with views of the Eiffel tower from the outdoor tables.

This is one of those ones I hate to recommend for fear of it being "discovered" - but Restaurant Pasco is just incredible. I think we were the only non-Parisians there, and had the best, best meal. It's incredibly charming.

Also highly recommend Le P'Tit Trouquet and Au Bon Accueil (reservations recommended).

Have also enjoyed La Verangue (27 rue Augereau), Le Septieme Vin (68 ave Bosquet, next to Hotel Prince), Nabuchodonosor (6 ave Bosquet), and many others.

Highly recommend exploring the neighorhood - which is chock full of wonderful possibilities.

Since you're staying in an apartment, take note of the many wonderful shops with take-away food - especially roasted chicken (with amazing potatoes fried/roasted in the dripping juices) with prepared sides. In addition to amazing fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, the fish markets also have sauces in packets (authentic) - hollandaise, beurre blanc, etc.

Be sure the check out Picard - frozen food heaven - not what you think. It's good to have a few things on hand for late at night, if you've had a late lunch and aren't hungry for dinner before the restaurants close.

The crepe stand on rue Cler is one of the best in Paris.

And, there are many cafes with wonderful composed salads and open-faced sandwiches (grilled/broiled). Highly recommend Le Recuitment.

Cafe Du March on Rue Cler comfortable--Crepe stand in Rue Cler is good as stated before

Enjoy

One of our favorites is just off rue du Champ de Mars. Walk to the east end of the street and turn right and you will see Leo le Lion at 23 rue Duvivier. A small place with a delightful waiter that speaks English. We've eaten there many times and have never been disappointed.

StCirq May 14th, 2007 12:41 PM

NO, no, no, no, no!!!!

NOT the Café du Marché!!! Ever stepped into the kitchen? Want to lose your lunch?

Please stay away from that horrid place, even though it has a kind of cute aspect from the street...there are SO many other choices that won't give you food poisoning.

Le Florimond is my favorite. I love La Fontaine de Mars. L'Auberge Bressane is usually wonderul. Bistro de Bretheuil has loads of fans. Thoumieux, IMO, has become too expensive for what it is, but if you want to do a bit of a splurge on a classic brasserie it's good. Don't like the Bistro de Papa. Adore Punjab for Indian food, and the little Sicilian pizza/pasta place right past Bistro de Papa.

And of course in and around rue Cler are scads of wonderful takeout places.

I agree with St.Cirq: avoid Cafe du Marche on rue Cler at all costs. There are so many better choices! Try Fables de la Fontaine and Cafe Constant on rue St.Dominique. There are so many good restaurants in this area that you'll be able to stroll to and from dinner most nights. Of course, the easy access to supermarkets (G-20) and specialty food shops in this area makes it easy to have either lunch or dinner in your apartment from time to time. EJ ((#))

Le Bistrot du 7eme, 56 blvd latour Maubourg, just up from Metro stop.

I had a very nice meal there, from their menu (fixed meal), I beleive, without my notes, 20-25 euros. Not very expensive, good quality. Nice place, was packed when I was there, with locals and tourists.

Last time we walked by Bistro de Papa, the awning read "Carmine". So, either it's gone, or they changed the name.

Great thread - we will be in Paris for 5 nights in July staying in the 6th.
Thanks! :-)

Has Fontaine de Mars re-opened? When I was in Paris last month it was closed for renovations. This isn't a "cafe" but L'Ami Jean is a nice bistro in the area.

Gretchen May 14th, 2007 05:32 PM

Bistro de Papa is happily gone. Fontaine de Mars closed, hopefully for renovations. Cafe du Marche is fine for coffee and roll in the morning--other than that PLEASE don't bother. Many Many better places nearby, most of which have been mentioned.
Is Clos des Gourmets on av. Rapp still extant?

Margaretlb May 14th, 2007 06:26 PM

Yes, Clos des Gourmets (16, av Rapp) is still there and I can't believe I had to cancel my dinner there last month! It was to be my final dinner on this trip but my daughter was too wiped out from the busy day and packing. I had some wonderful meals here on previous trips. Some other restaurants I enjoy in the 7th:

Les Olivides (41, av de Segur 01 47 83 70 09)has a menu from sunny Provence and IMHO the best Grand Marnier Souffle in Paris.

La Ferme St-Simon (6, rue St-Simon 01 45 48 35 74). Some "foodies" think it's a bit passe but the traditional food prepared by a master chef with lovely surroundings and friendly, helpful staff keeps me coming back.

Bistrot du Breteuil (3 pl du Breteuil 01 45 67 07 27). This is supposed to be the largest terrace in Paris and it's an all prix fixe menu for E32 that includes a Kir Royal, three courses and a bottle of wine. The included wine is so-so but you can upgrade. This place really feels like Paris and a reasonable and good meal helps the budget!

The following two are actually in the 15th but right on the boundary with the 7th:

Le Suffren (84, av de Suffren 01 45 66 97 86). This busy family owned brasserie seems to be a local favorite. After 9:00 it's filled with Parisiens having a good time. The carte is huge with all of the brasserie favorites from Plats du Mer to Crepes Suzette. Serves late.

Restaurant de la Tour (6, rue Desaix 01 43 06 04 24). Small bistro with very, very good prix fixe and carte. Reasonable wines, friendly service, very comfortable and relaxing meal.

Laidback reported recently "There has been some interest in the re-modeling and subsequent closing of the restaurant Fontaine de Mars. I went by today and it had just opened. They have eliminated the adjacent table d'hote annex called the Auvergne Gourmande, incorporating that space into the newly rnovated mother restaurant."

Le Clos des Gourmets was still open for business when we walked by last September.

TorontoSteven May 15th, 2007 05:36 AM

Yes, Clos des Gourmets is open.
