Restaurant Suggestions for Venice?
For some reason, I have difficulty finding posts in this new forum version (new to me anyway). I would think that there is information out there, but I haven't been able to find it. :(
So... I'm asking for my sister who has never been to Italy before, and their first stop is in Venice. They are a couple with a 15-year-old daughter and would like to avoid the tourist traps if possible and there are many in Venice. They love Italian cuisine and seafood, and would like to find fun local places with good food! Any suggestions? Last time I was in Venice was 11 years ago, so I'm not much help! Thank you! |
Our favorite restaurant in Venice is Corte Sconda. Small hidden away from the main touirist areas, and with a lovely courtyard with trees actually growing in it. Fantastic seafood and good, local wine. Not cheap but very well worth it. Google it and take a good map.

Thanks so much! I’ll definitely check it out! |

I had my best meal in Venice at Osteria alle Testiere in 2017. This recent Chowhound thread has additional recommendations: https://www.chowhound.com/post/venic...l-2019-1082754. |
Julie Vikmanis beat me to it. we discovered Corte Sconta back in the 80s when it was just new. Last visit was in 2007 and it was just as good then. Just sit back and let them bring the food to you. (Then don't look at the bill....)

A great local place for cicchetti is Osteria Alsquero. There aren't many seats and there is usually a line, but if it's a nice day a lot of people eat outside standing next to the canal. It's definitely good for local flavor and inexpensive.
Forgot to mention it's in Dorsoduro, not far from Le Zattere and just down from Ponte dell'Accademia |
I think our last trip there was in 2016 and I can only find my trip report for 2014*, so keep in mind things change.
We had a good first meal outside along the canal at Osteria Bancogiro. We certainly plan to return to La Zucca. Our favorite upscale place was Il Riddoto. We had fun eating at a hidden take-out pasta place, Dal Moro's Fresh Pasta to Go (used to be Angelo's). Our food tour guide, a local, took us to Osteria Alsquero for cicchetti. Upon her recommendations, we also made reservations for Osteria Oliva Nera, but we changed our minds to eat at Il Riddoto that night.
