Restaurant Suggestions for these spots in Greece?
 

Hi- <BR> <BR>We are visiting Athens, Mykenos, and Santorini in May. I'm interested in hearing suggestions on the best places to eat at any of these destinations. Price is not a concern. <BR> <BR>Thanks! <BR> <BR>Mike

Hi Mike, <BR>its really hard to remember the names of the restaurants in Greece...not sure why. In any case a couple little suggestions. In Mykonos we ate Gyro's bought from a little open storefront. It was by far the best gyro I ever ate. <BR> <BR>In Athens, take a taxi to Mikrolimono and eat at any of the fish tavernas by the harborside. The waiters bring platters of fresh fish for you to pick what you want (and see for yourself that it is fresh). And it was very quiet and romantic there... one of the most peaceful meals we had. <BR> <BR>Have a great trip!

I agree with Beth - hard to remember Greek restaurant names... Anyway, theres a cafe/taverna on the water at the bottom of the cliffs of the town of Oia in Santorini. You can walk down - long, windy path or drive down. Best place to have cocktails and apps and watch the sunset. In Mykonos, we had seafood at the tiny restaurant in a back alley off of the waterfront. (Actually, everything off the waterfront is in a back alley) Anyways, walk back from the waterfront, away from the more touristy area where the cruise ships come in and you'll find a bunch of more authentic restaurants. Other than that - just walk around and find a restaurant that looks good. Many of the places will let you see what they're cooking and taste it before you order. We couldn't find most of the restaurants that were recommended to us anyways b/c the streets are all in Greek, but we never had a bad meal. Good Luck! <BR>

<BR>If you like baklava, there is a shop in Mykonos that is like the "31 Flavors" of the baklava business--all sorts of delicious stuff! It is somewhere in that central touristy area, close to all the other shops and restaurants.

In Mykonos try:- <BR> <BR>El Greco - close to the bus station, very nice food, well presented. Expensive. <BR> <BR>or <BR> <BR>Nicos - Clsoe to the harbour, well run, great food at very reasonable prices. Very popular so be there early(ish) to get a table. <BR> <BR>Bill

The Neon cafe in Athens is good for lunch or coffee and dessert, especially their tiramisu - mmm. Very clean place. In the Plaka area lots of restaurants are clustered on the hillside below the Parthenon. There is Greek dancing nightly, and had very good spaghetti at one of those spots. In Santorini there was a cliffside restaurant in Oia that had tuna pizza which was quite good. I don't know the name of that place but it seemed a bit German (?). Otherwise you can find some good desserts in Santorini but watch prices at dinner. Unlike other posters here, we found the food in Greece generally awful. It's a good place to lose weight. <BR>

In Santorini, we liked the 1800 at Oia best. Just drive there to watch the sunset, stroll around the nice shops and stay for dinner. A close second was the Camille Stephani in Kamari beach, a Greek restaurant with French flavor. In Fira, you may try the Nikolas or, if you feel like having a rest on Greek food, the stakes at the Kastro are delicious. <BR> We were told at the hotel, in Athens, that the best restaurant in town is the Bajazzo ... we were also told that we would spend over GDR 120,000 (there were 4 of us) ... we didn't go. The two restaurants in Athens we liked best were the Fourtouna, in Kolonaky, and the Kostoyanis Taverna, a block behind the Archaeological Museum. We had fish and seafood in both. <BR> <BR>Paulo <BR> <BR>

In Santorini don't miss the Archepaleos (sorry about the spelling). It is in Fira right on the Caldera. Right across from the church. They have excellent food, they have their own secret receipe for spaghetti sauce that is fantasic. They have great service and a wonderful view, but get there by 8 pm if you want a table with a view of the sunset.
