Restaurant recommendations in Normandy/Brittany?
Any good tips for memorable dining in either of these regions? Either/all..... great bargains, fabulous food, or unique setting.....are what we're seeking.

Here are three in two very different locations:
Restaurant l'Huitriere - - http://www.huitriereetretat.com - - fabulous food, unique setting, moderately expensive. And while you're at it, spend a night or two at Villa Bligny (same website, same owners). On the northe eastern edge of Normandy, about a half hour on beyond Honfleur. and - - about 250 miles to the west, in Brittany... Restaurant du Port, on the harbor in Paimpol or the restaurant in the hotel Repaire du Kerroc'h - - both right on the harbor in Paimpol, both excellent food, both excellent location; Restaurant du Port the more expensive of the two (neither is "budget" dining). These are the places we would feel able to recommend from two Breton holidays.
Le Petit Normand in Bayeaux. The Café du Quai in Audierne Creperie la Fontaine du Jerzual in Dinan is adequate. You MUST have one good crepes meal Le Relais in Erquy L?islandais in Paimpol The Pommes d'Or in Guehenno is probably the best we had anywhere in Britanny |

I'll second Le Petit Normand in Bayeux and Add LeBretagne in Questembert...bring money!

But even better than Le Petit Normand in Bayeux is Le Petit Bistro, about 2 blocks away.

Le Cheval Blanc in Bléré is one of my favorite restaurants in all France.

I agree with Rex. I had an exceptional meal at Restaurant l'Huitriere, in Etretat, last year. We had the seafood feast for two (about 100 Euro). It was a 3 hour meal and we had a great time along with a great view from the second story. Etretat is a beautiful area.

One of the best meals I ever had was in Fougeres, at a restaruant adjacent to our hotel called "Les Voyages". It was incredible from the start with our "mise en bouche" to the dessert. I cannot recall what we ate but every course was presented with flair and our four or five course meal was about 30 Euros each. So, if you are in the area, this place would easily get my vote!

We loved Moulin de Rosmedec in Pont Avon, Ferme St Simeon and Maison de Bricourt in Cancale.

We had one of our favorite French meals in Paimpol. La Vieille Tour restaurant, 13 rue de L'Eglise. Tel: 02 96 20 83 18. Fax: 02 96 20 90 41. We passed it several times walking through the village, but always thought it wasn't open because there was no one to be seen through the windows. One night I just tried the door and it opened. Madame came to greet us and escorted us up the stairs to a lovely little beamed dining room. All during the meal, we were surprised with little tastes of "this and that". Very memorable, wonderful lobster. We dearly wanted to eat at moulin de Rosmedec in Pont Aven, but it was November and they were closed for the season. A beautiful setting. In southern Brittany is a place we dearly wanted to stay and dine, but we didn't have time for a tranquil, country sojourn. We did drive out to see it and it's as lovely as depicted on the website. A la Duchesse Anne in St-Malo. It was recomended by my taxi driver in Jersey, and I was very please with it.
Very beautiful inside and food was good. Also, although they didn't speak much English they still were helpful to this none-French speaking tourist. Keith |
