Restaurant Recommendations for Strasbourg
Will be in Strasbourg for just a few days next week. Do any of you have recommendations for restaurants there? We are foodies but one of our group is not willing to spend much, so we want to accommodate everyone's budget. We are looking for typical food and wine from the region (can you suggest what the specialties are?).

Chez Yvonne and Maison Kammerzell are both near the landmark cathedrale and serve excellent food that is typical of the region, such as choucroute garnie, tarte a l'oignon, etc.

Umm, Grandmere. Those two items I know. Yum!
Thanks for the restaurant recommendations. |

Hello Leburta :)
On our summer trip, which included a couple nights in Strasbourg, I can comment on two of our restaurants, one good, one bad. Good: Lunch Le Piler des Anges - on the pedestrian street that runs into the front entrance of the cathedrale. My husband had the daily menu of rindsteak, fries, and mousse. I had Flamenkuchen (Tarte Flambe). Both were delicious. The Flamenkuchen is very typical of the region. Very Bad: Dinner (The worst meal of our three week trip). Taverne de la Cathedrale. It is located directly in front of the cathedral, outside seating with a terrific view!! But the food -- oh my, so bad. DH ordered the veal with cream sauce and I had their salmon/tuna salad and onion soup. The salad was palatable but the soup - oh my, a real disappointment for France. The onions were minced - yes minced! - and there was one 1/2 inch crouton on top with a teensy bit of cheese. There are many restaurants right in front of the cathedrale. All were busy. We just chose poorly. |
Zum Strissel is a cool wine bar where you can also get good local food at reasonable cost.
Specialties are choucroute, foie gras, baeckeoffe, sweet and savory tarts....frankly, it's not my cup of tea culinarily, but if you order the local specialties you'll do well. You'll also probably find good game this time of year, if you like that....wild boar, pheasant, quail... |
