Restaurant recommendation for Madrid
 

My brother in law has to take his clients in Madrid to an elegant restaurant. Somewhere close to the centre would be ideal. Budget is around 60-70 euros/pp. He says the food should be good, the ambiance understated but elegant and the place must be conducive for relaxed conversations (ie. no loud music etc.). I know that dinner is usually served after nine. However would you know of any such places which start serving dinner around 7:30-8:00?

Could any of you please recommend such a place?

Try the Restaurante Botin - http://www.restaurantebotinpr.com. The oldest restaurant in the world, its suckling pig is highly recommended. I suggest contacting the restaurant re the early dinner time. In Spain we ate earlier but it was never an issue for the restaurants. It felt weird though being the only diners!

8 pm in Madrid is a little bit like 4:30 in most of North America.

7.30 -8 pm.. I doubt his Madrid clients (if they are Spanish ) will even consider DINNER at that time.. maybe a drink and luxury tapas.

But there ARE some places. Botin may be one of them, but I wouldn't call it elegant or quiet, but there is no loud music, just small rooms, and many times large groups having a very good time.

I ma sure www.maribelsguides.com as mentioned will be able to lead you the right direction.

I think Madrillenos may find Botin a bit touristy and not so elegant. Just have him read Maribelsguides.com for the best restaurant choices in Madrid.

Thanks a ton to all of you. I am forwarding this thread to my friend. The maribel guides are a gold mine of information. I am almost tempted now to plan a trip to Spain, just to use all the terrific information. I am sure my brother in law will be more than thrilled.

I do like Botin, but it is not what I would consider a "quiet" restaurant. I like better Posada de la Villa, their specialty is lamb.

I too enjoyed that. Nice but really elegant no, more of a charming place with old history. But we really liked it alot.

So are the clients from Spain?
