Restaurant recommendatins for a Special ocassion in Venice
Hello, we will be in Venice in late September. Looking for recommendations for dinner to celebrate our Anniversary. Al Fresco dining would be a plus.
Thanks! Kathleen |
I will be curious to see what responses you get! DH and I will be in Venice the end of this month, celebrating our 50th! We also like al fresco. Not real foodies, so something tasty and convenient to St Marks Square would probably be best for us.
Congrats on your anniversary. |
Budget?
|
Congrats to you too! Budget isn't the issue. But sometimes the priciest places are not the best! Any recommendations are appreciated!
|
Agree 100% that budget is not an issue! Venice is not a cheap vacation destination.
We especially enjoy dining outside, relaxing with a nice bottle of wine, good people watching, and not feeling rushed to leave our table so someone else can sit down and dine. |
>>But sometimes the priciest places are not the best! <<
And often here someone will make a recommendation, only to be told, "Oh, we didn't want to spend that much." It's not a question of comparing price to quality; it's a question of not wasting everyone's time. |
Google Venissa.
|
Check out the Venice board at Chowhound.com. They have a good mix of food loving posters who frequently eat in Venice.
|
DRJ, Venissa looks very interesting. How did you get there? Do you need to take a private water taxi?
|
A Beccafico in the Campo San Stefano for seafood. You can dine outside. $$$$.
La Zucca, near Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio. Vegetables the highlight here. Tiny. A few outside tables in a narrow passage.$$ Thin |
Cip's Club at Cipriani is a very romantic evening. A lovely ride on their private water taxi and a gorgeous view across the Guidecca overlooking San Marco.
|
Antiche Carampane, ask for an outside table. Wonderful seafood, a bit difficult to find, get good directions

I would love seafood, but DH doesn't eat it at all! Drat! La Zucca with its vegetables might be a good option.
Thanks! Keep the suggestions coming, please. |
Not eating seafood in Venice limits your options drastically. La Zucca is a very good choice in that case.
|
La Cantina has excellent seafood, roasted meat and antipasto plates. There is outside dining, but this is a boisterous wine bar and not especially romantic. Lots of excellent wine too! It will run 40-50 euros pp. they are in Campo San Felice in Cannaregio and you must reserve.

Bistrot de venise.
Nice, and they speak french, which for me is an advantage. Old recipies, good food, nice service. Ah expensive. But no so much. And better quality price/ratio than in most others in Venice, imho. |
Venissa is accessed by vaporetto, too. Take the #3 from the train station to Murano. Transfer to the #12. The first stop is Mazzorbo.
|
On the terrace of the hotel Monaco on the Grand Canal just outside St Marks Square.
|
La Zucca is pleasant, but not really a celebration sort of place. I was going to suggest Algiubagio on the Fondamente Nova, but it's fish. The view across the Giudeccca canal is beautiful both ways, so the Terraza di Casin dei Nobili on a pontoon on the Zattere is good, or Harry's Dolci on Giudecca looking toward the Zattere is also very nice.

-Algiubagio-
They have meat AND fish and a great view... excellent suggestion. |
