Staying in convent north of the Colosseum, just off of Via Cavour for five nights in June. Any restaurant recommendations? Esp interested in home style with local interest.

Osteria da Nerone, via Terme di Tito 96, specially known for their antipasti buffet. Basic interior but you can have a view of the Colosseum.
near Colosseum metro stop.

I haven't tried this one
Pizzeria Leonia, via Leonina 84. Near Colosseum. Cheap Eats in Italy 1996 said:
"one of the best slices of pizza you will have in Rome..it is a virtual mob scene around lunchtime when the wait for your number to be called seems endless…pizzas are cut in pieces as large or small as you want, I suggest trying two or three varieties." Michelin's Green Guide to Rome says
"This tiny shop is always packed at lunch time. Offers a wide range of pizzas."
Jim, I had been recommended the following and would definitely return:

Trattoria Pasqualino (Moderate)
Via SS. Quattro (betwn. Via Claudia & Via Ostilia by the Forum)
Roma, Italy
06/700-4576 phone
This little Trattoria was perfect. Located on a quiet little street not too far from the Forum I was impressed with how many locals frequented the place. Besides the fact that the meal was delicious the waiter took very good care of me and even gave me a complimentary chilled Limoncello in a frosted cordial glass at the end of my meal. This was my first experience in dining al fresco and I was absolutely hooked. Unfortunately, every Trattoria I ever dine at will (unfairly?) be compared to this one.
As you walk from the Coloseum to San clemente you pass thru a working class neighborhood. We ahd a great lunch at Trattoria Luzzi. Huge plates of basic pasta and a very nice antipasti buffet. Very cheap, 4 pasta only L45,000 or about $20.00 last summer.

Two come to mind, a few blocks from the Colosseo; Mario's Hostaria, a couple of blocks north; Charly's Sauciere, about 5 blocks east. Both are quite good.
