Restaurant of a lifetime in Paris ?
 

Hi, I'm going to Paris in a few days and I would like to offer my wife a great dinner in a Top restaurant. Any advice would be welcome! Tks

You are in the right city and there are so many choices!

If you like really formal, with impeccable service and a more traditional experience, Le Cinq would be great.

If you want a more relaxed setting but still with excellent service, but less traditional...L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon. It is out favorite (go to the one in the 6th).

My concern for you is that you are going in a few days....most top spots book well in advance.

Some other favorites with excellent food are Cafe Constant, Les Cocottes, Reed...all in the 7th arrondisement.

Many recommend Tallievent...it is well respected and has been there forever...again, not sure you can get a reservation on short notice. Le Grand Vefour is another Paris establishment.

For a great view consider the restaurant atop the Branly, Les Ombres or Jules Vernes at the Eiffel Tower.

If you are staying at a great hotel, sometimes the concierges can pull strings even if the restaurant tells you they are booked through the euro crisis.

Restaurants of a lifetime book up months in advance in Paris. How good does it have to be, what's your budget, what kind of ambiance, and any food preferences?

Agree that many top restaurants will not have availability at such short notice.

If you can provide a budget people may be able to make recos that still have availability.

Laserre is the most beautiful and elegant restaurant in Paris and perhaps the world. For many years a 3 star restaurant it is at the present time not on everyone's must go to list so you might have a chance at getting a table.

I think it is on Avenue Franklin Roosevelt.

The most romantic meal my wife and I have had in a restaurant was at Jules Verne. Watching the lights come on throughout Paris and the Bateaux Mouches gliding along the Seine was unforgetable. Having said that, we made our reservations four months in advance to guarantee we would have a table next to the window.

If we wanted to spend a bundle this would be the place for us.

Strongly suggest you contact the concierge of your hotel and find out what places in your price range will be available the nights you have available. that way one email or call can get you the options. th e longer you wait the harder it will be to find a place.

I'd follow nytraveler's advice - like immediately. Most of the wonderful restaurants recommended so far are almost certainly booked up 'in a few days'.

Let your hotel find something for you.

If you aren't staying in a top end hotel - they still <i>might</i> be able to find a nice place.

Also lunch is often easier to get last minute...

All of these restaurants are wonderful and if you can get tables in any of them, bon appetit. However, another, less formal venue is 114 Faubourg in the Hotel Bristol. I had a business trip to Paris earlier this year and had very good meals there with excellent service.

Their wine appreciation nights, held the first Monday of the month and including a four-course menu, are fun and you get to meet the vintner in person, not merely taste their wines. A general FYI as the OP will have missed the October tasting.

If you can wait.. you don't necessarily need reservations at L'Atelier de Joel Rochubon.
I've seen people having drinks in the Hotel Pont Royal lobby while waiting for a table.

Merely my opinion, but I wouldn't go to any restaurant, in Paris or elsewhere, expecting the best meal of my lifetime.

If you go in with those expectations, every deviation from perfection, no matter how slight, will be magnified. Instead, perhaps settle for expecting a really good meal with really good service and a wonderful dining companion; at least that last part is already guaranteed for you :-) .

If it turns out to be that "restaurant of a lifetime", then so much the better!
