Restaurant near theatre?
 

We would like to eat before going to the theatre--one night to the Lyceum theatre and another night to the Queens theatre in London. Could you give a recommendation for restaurants near each of those theatres?
We especially like Italian food, and price is not an issue (since this is a "trip of a lifetime"). Also, will we need reservations? Since we are both in our 70's we would prefer not walking more than about 3 blocks. Thanks

Almost next door to the Lyceum is Orso, a delightful Italian restaurant.

Quite near the Queens Theatre is Mon Plaisir which is on Monmouth, opposite the Covent Garden Hotel. It is a lovely and long established French restaurant which does a wonderful job of getting you out to the theatre in time.

I hope you aren't disappointed, but neither of these places are anywhere near "break the bank" prices.

Oh, and yes, in both cases I'd make reservations just to be safe.

We had a lovely pre-theatre meal at the National Portrait Gallery. We walked to the Queen's Theatre from there, but it is a bit more than 3 blocks (could probably get a cab fairly inexpensively, though). Here's what I wrote in my trip report about that meal:
"My daughter and I ordered from the pre-theatre menu which had two choices for each course (she got three courses, I got two) and my husband ordered from the regular menu (salad, salmon, chips). The food was excellent: rocket salad with parmesan and balsamic, tagliatelle with peas and broadbeans. White chocolate cheesecake for my daughter’s dessert. http://www.npg.org.uk/live/portrest.asp has menus and prices. With wine and beer, the meal came to £85 (£13.95 for two course pre-theatre, £16.95 for three course)."

We also ate at Orso, which was fine.
