Restaurant La Pallotta, Assisi
 

I'd never return to this restaurant: terribly slow service, rude wait staff, missed food and missed champagne with no effort to make it right made our dining experience there the worst we've ever encountered in Italy.
The food -- nothing really extremely tasty, came out so slowly from the kitchen that we couldn't even really eat together. Salads without oil and vinegar, and a brusque comment when we finally pried it out of the waitress, one entree mixup with no effort made to be flexible -- ugh! Our reservation was for 7:30 -- didn't head back to our hotel until going on 11. Some places you'd want to stay that long. We couldn't wait to leave this one!
Take my advice -- pass it by!

Did you also stay at Hotel Pallotta? Thanks for the advice on the restaurant, it was ear-marked for one of our restaurants in Assisi.

Didn't stay at the hotel -- but La Fortezza was a wonderful and quiet hotel just off the main piazza. Lovely AND a wonderful restaurant!

I have to agree...we ate at both La Pallota and La Fortezza during our 4 day stay in Assisi in Feb. We ate a La Fortezza on Valentine's Day and had a wonderful meal and lovely atmosphere and service. The next night we tried La Pallota...the complete opposite. The service was almost laughable, the food looked and tasted like a frozen tv entree and the atmosphere was cold. Definitely try La Fortezza but avoid La Pallota would be my advice.

Uh oh, we're booked at the hotel La Pallotta this September. I will avoid the restaurant but is the hotel as bad?

I guess this really does demonstrate how different experiences can be at different times....I had dinner last month at Trattoria Pallotta in Assisi and had quite a good experience. I was dining alone and felt a tiny bit rushed (they brought my appetizer and main course at the same time) but the food was very good and the service (other than that one problem) was very good.

On the other hand, I had a problem with La Fortezza's restaurant. I was dining alone, and when I arrived about 8 p.m. for dinner, the restaurant was almost empty, but they still wouldn't seat me. I gather it was because they had only a few small tables, which were all occupied, and the rest had been arranged for groups so they didn't want to break those up. I can't comment on the food, which I realize is the important issue, but the experience left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth.

It's usually suspect when someone's first and only post is to slam a particular business. Why would Maxkol register just to tell us about this restaurant?

I had an excellent lunch at La Fotrezza which the gent at Umbra Hotel had recommended. Also dining alone, but there was plenty of room for a late lunch.

Betsy--I was thinking the exact same thing and see that the next 2 posters are also first-and-only time posters...makes you wonder...

I had a very good dinner at La Pallotta, with nice service, not fantastic but certainly nothing bad, but that was over 4 years ago. Given how quickly some of my favorite restaurants in my hometown sometimes go downhill, I wouldn't say it's not possible. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience.

Just thought I'd say that, although it might look like I'm a first time poster, I'm really not...I've posted several times before but because of losing my computer, changing servers, and a mix up on the other screen name, I had to start all over again and decided to change my screen name to reflect the fact that I'm always ready to go traveling! As far as La Pallotta is concerned, I'm sure all restaurant have an off night...we just happened to catch it. Also about La Fortezza, when we arrived it was almost empty...we were told we got the last free table for the evening (we didn't have a reservation). After about 15-20 minutes the place as packed with people that were smart enough to make reservations. So if you really want to dine there, a reservation would be a good idea.
