I wonder if anyone can recommend a value-for-money restaurant at Glasgow. Thanks.

I wonder if the Italian restaurant called Pavarotti Trattoria is good. I heard that Trattoria Trevi and Bar Gandolfi are not too bad as well.

Pavarotti Trattoria is located on Cambridge Street, diagonally opposite the large Thistle Hotel and close to Cowcaddens underground station.

It is a traditional Italian restaurant very much in the old style. It feels and looks authentic and any time I have dined there the food has been very good.

For dinner I'd say you would spend around £25 and that includes wine. It does have a lot of regular customers which is a good sign.

Hopefully others here will be able to give you information on the other two restaurants.

As Sheila has indicated, you didn't give us much information. It would be helpful if you let us know how much you wish to spend and whether or not you prefer the restaurant to be in the city centre.

Whatever you do , do not go to the "Ubiquitous Chip" restaurant.

I enjoyed the Willow Tea Room in Sauchiehall Street - It was designed by Charles Rennie MacIntosh (which is why I sought it out) and is actually on the second floor of a jewelry store called Henderson's.

What is wrong with Ubiquitous Chip? It seems to be a highly recommended restaurants by a few guide books.

As to what's wrong withthe Chip, I couldn't comment, but from a quick scan of its web site, you'll be lucky to get lunch in braserie with wine at your price range, dinner or anything in the restaurant is going to be a no no.

Now, there will be masses of places you can eat in your price range; but many in which you can't.

Try the Ashoka, Cafe India, or just about any other curry house,Ichiban, or Kember & Jones. Or Mcdonalds.

If you are on a modest budget check out the Gate and Secret Garden in the Merchant City (opposite Tron Theater.)

They serve up fusion tapas with an Asian/Pacific touch. Trendy, relaxed environment, and handy for a bite to eat before exploring the Merchant City District. Will set you back about $25 - $30 for 3 tapas.

I loved Cafe Gandolfi in Glasgow, we ate there 3 times in one week. I think they thought we were weird. They have the most delicious Cullen Skink I've ever tasted and their gravlax melts in your mouth, total foodie perfection. Also, their desserts and free bread were lovely!
