Restaurant in Barcelona

We will be in Barcelona 1 day before a cruise Nov 6.Any must sees or restaurant suggestions. We are staying in Regencia Colon Hotel, so would like a place close to there. Not looking for very expensive but nice and fun

I don't know where your hotel is but I just returned from Barcelona last night and we ate at 2 GREAT places . . . the first was Hostal de Rita, Arago 279, 3 blocks south (towards Placa de Catalunya) and 1 block east off Passeig Gracia (near Gaudi's Casa Baltllo). They have a 3-course menu del dia for 7.50 euros ($9.25) and the food was really good, not your usual chicken and fries. People were lined up outside to get in, always a good sign.

The second place is across the street at 282 d'Arago, Restaurant Madrid-Barcelona. This place is a little more upscale and is excellent. It is owned by the Hostal de Rita folks. There were 3 of us and the bill with wine, dessert was less than $50.

We were in Spain 10 days and these two places were the best and we could not believe the prices. These are white linen napkins/table cloths/cristal type places.

Hope you have as much fun as we did.

Sandy - Are you doing a trip report? I'm thinking about going to Barcelona and Madrid in January during my daughter's college break.

Highly recommend La Dolca Herminia at Magdolenes 27--2 blocks towards Ramblas from Palais de la Musica. Excellent food, very reasonable prices, and they even had a non-smoking section (which is how we got in without reservations.)

To Kybourbon, yes, I'm doing a trip report but it will be awhile before it's done. I have to catch up at work first.

Email me at [email protected] and I'll make sure you get a copy.

remember you can get the great menu of the day 7-12 euro prices during the LUNCH.
the dinner menus are more, or usually a la carte.

for a fabulous salda, pasta, dessert, and endless capuchino buffett, try FRESCO.
there are a couple in barcelona and madrid, valencia. 7.4 euros includes drink, and the rest is unlimited.

Our best meal in Barcelona over the summer was at Alkimia--40E degustation menu, innovative Spanish cuisine. Excellent!

Just an FYI... The place Sandy_b mentioned, Hostal de Rita, would be a walk-able distance to the Regencia. I'm not sure of the other address. You could check it out at mappy.com.

We had an amazing meal and fun at Cal Pep (Although not inexpensive.... about 70E for two).

I did a very lengthy trip report on our 7 days in Barcelona. You might find something in there that strikes your fancy for activities. http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34483366

Have a great trip.

For other posters who are not familiar with the Regencia Colon - it's very close to the Cathedral.

I just spent four months in Barcelona and have many favorite restaurants because the food is wonderful there. If you are looking for traditional catalan food there is a wonderful restaurant called Set Portes (seven doors in catalan) it is one of the oldest restaurants in Barcelona and has wonderful seafood and paella. it is located in Barceloneta near the ocean on calle de isabel II. You will need to make a reservation as it is one of the most popular restaurants in Barcelona. You can get the phone number online by just googleing the name.
