Restaurant, cafe suggestions near Gendamenmarkt, Berlin
Thanks to advice received from this forum we have locked in a 5 night stay at Hotel Gendarm Nouveau in Berlin.
Now looking for some suggestions for some great cafes and restaurants located walking distance from the hotel.
Daughter is vegetarian so have bookmarked "Cookies and Cream" restaurant. Any other suggestions? Not looking so much for expensive "fine dining", experiences. Casual, fun, trendy is good!
Thanks, Shooshy

Yes, Vapiano is close by and offers fresh and well prepared food at reasonable prices. Excellent salads, pastas, pizzas made to order and many vegetarian options. It is what I would call casually upscale and reasonably priced. We had dinner there twice last year and plan to return again this November when in Berlin.

Lutter & Wegner at Charlottenstr on the corner of Gendarmenmarkt has a great wine selection and decent German/Austrian cuisine. It doesn't blow the bank either and is just a few steps down the road from the Gendarm Noveau Hotel.

Aigner is the restaurant within the Sofitel on Gendamenmarkt and offers quite affordable lunch specials. Cuisine again is German/Austrian.

For a traditional coffee house, Einstein's branch on Unter den Linden is a decent choice.

Newton Bar on Gendarmenmarkt, across the street from Lutter & Wegner and thus 10 steps closer to your hotel, offers good drinks at night (and during the day) among pictures of the photographer.

I liked the Opernpalais Cafe near the Opera House on Unter den Linden. It is a traditional, grand cafe with lots of choices and is not far from the Gendarmenmarkt.
Fassbender and Rausch, the famous chocolatier, is also at the Gendarmenmarkt on Charlottenstrasse.
