Rest stops from Hamburg to Amsterdam
My husband and I will be driving from Sweden to Paris in late May. I have our route pretty much planned out but are there any good stops you could recommend between Hamburg and Amsterdam? Our time is fairly unlimited and I'm not committed yet to any particular roads. Thanks!

By good stops do you mean overnight stays or just stops along the autobahn?
The route you would be taking would be the A-1 Autobahn Hamburg - Bremen, then the A-28 Autobahn to the Dutch A-7 Autobahn to Groningen, and from there on to A'dam. From my driving experience in the area, I would say Bremen would be your best bet for an overnight stop. Otherwise, for just "Rasthaeuser" go to the web site www.rast de. You enter your start and finish cities, and they will show what's along the way. The only problem, it's in German. So have your dictionary handy

I second a visit to Bremen, perhaps a meal in the Rathauskeller where almost 300 brands of German wines are served with traditional German food. The oldtown has many impressive gilded buildings & monuments including statues of Roland & the fairytale Bremen musicians. It also has the attractive pedestrian Schnoor quarter with its meandering alleys. There is a great Hilton btw the old town and the Schnoor quarter.
If you choose to drive the southern route via Osnabrueck, then you may consider visiting the small towns of Minden, Detmold, & Lemgo. I would however skip Hannover.

Thanks Dax, this is exactly what I was looking for! We were planning on driving straight from Hamburg to Amsterdam. No overnight stays but I didn't want to spend the whole time in the car and drive by great towns that don't get any mention in tour books.

If you drive through/by Detmold, you won't see that much as the center core is mostly a pedestrian area. It's very pleasant, we spent several days there last year, and it's home to Germany's most important outdoor museum and one of its best music schools. Also close to Externsteine, Germany's answer to Stonehenge.
We drove through the towns Dax mentioned (plus some others) and didn't find them that appealing as drive-bys. To do them justice, you need to stop and wander around the back streets. The main, drive-through streets were pretty bland.
