reservations required-Alsace
I am planning to visit the wine region of Alsace in September. I do not want to limit myself by reserving rooms prior to going. Will I run into problems? Planning on being in the area 9/4-9/10.
Thanks for all advice |
Oh, you'll have a great time. Getting ready to pick the grapes!!
You will still be at the tail end of the peak season, so if there is a place you have your eyes set on, you might want to book it. ((b)) |
That's a beautiful time in Alsace so I can only guess that lots of tourists go there then (that's when I've gone--and always with reservations)and that lots of local people also travel about especially on weekends then. It is, however, an area fairly rich in accommodations, including farmhouses that advertise zimmers, so it may be possible to get places without advance reservations but I'm guessing you'll need to make several inquiries before finding a place most nights.

Any Suggestions for accomodations?
I think Ribeauville, Riquewihr and Kayersberg all sound interesting but as I have not been there.... Also how about the Black Forest, Rhine Valley? Obviously, I need all the help I can get. |
Here's a link that I use.
http://www.visit-alsace.com/hotels/hotels_ang_3e.html We stayed at Hotel L'Ami Fritz, in Ottrott. I would recommend it. It's at the Northern end of Alsace, a little south of Strasbourg. We took day trips from there. Once into the link, it's at the 3*** level. Click on Luxury if you want 4****. ((b)) |
We stayed at the comfort inn next to the river in strasbourg. It was a great central location from which to take day trips. The rooms were absolutely huge and very affordable. Have fun.

Thanks guys,
I actually have a room for 2 nights in Strasboug, used Hilton points. I was hoping to get some info on something down the road a bit or even on the Black Forest/Rhine Valley. We can only drink so much wine - wife wants to check out the castles in the area. |
I stayed at the Hotel Citotel Les Vosges in Obernai and it is across from the train station at 5 place de le Gare. Tel: 03 88 95 53 78 Information on the Web: http://fr.federal-hotel.com/hotel_ci...rnai_13536.htm
56€ for a double. Rooms are small but clean. A really substantial breakfast. |
