Reservations needed for train to Versailles?

Is the RER a good way to get to Versailles - if so - are reservations needed and how many times a day do they run? Thanks for the help.

Bad me - forgot to say we will be leaving for Versailles from Paris. Hope I get my mind in better shape before the trip. Thanks

Hi;
No reservations are required if you take the Metro or RER to Versailles from Paris. It's a regular stop. Go to http://www.ratp.fr/Eng/index.htm for information on travel in Paris - very useful Metro information!!

If you are planning on visiting the Palace of Versaille, the RER is the best way. Just make sure you get on the "Vick" train which will let you off at the station nearest the Chateau. Walk out of the station, you'll see McDonalds straight ahead, make a right, walk about 100 yards or so, and the Chateau will be on your left. You can't miss it.

Noot only they aren't required, but they aren't even possible.

There's dozens of trains each day. I don't think you'll have to wait for more than half an hour in the worst case. It's merely a commuter.

Take the RER Line C - Direction Versailles Rive Gauche. This will let you off close to the Chateau. The RER runs regularly, like the metro. No reservations on the RER. Trains also run to Versailles from Gare St. Lazare (Metro St. Lazare) every 15 minutes. It's about a 30 minute ride and costs $5 round trip. It lets you off in town - you have a longer walk but get to see the town.

One of our most fondest memories is of our day trip to Versailles. We took the RER...very easy process. We packed a lunch in our backpack....baguettes from the corner stand near our hotel, cheese, a bottle of wine, travel cups and travel utensils (both available from Magellen). We found a quiet spot along the waterway at the far end of the palace grounds, sat on a bench, and enjoyed a leisurely lunch. Other visitors did similar picnics, but most purchased the over-priced, so-so food available at the food vendor carts on the palace grounds. AAhhhh, to be there now......
