Reservations at Academy and Uffzi.

How do I go about making these reservations?

Any other suggestions of reservations to make in either Rome, Florence, Venice or Positano? WIll be traveling in April.

Thanks!

Hi L,

Uffizi and Academia Museum Reservations
The easiest and cheapest way is to call Florence 1016868 (dial around number), 011 (U.S. international access code) 39 (Italy's country code) then 055-294-883 8:30-18:30 M-F and 8:30-12:00 Sat. Florence time. You will get an English speaking operator and in 2-3 minutes YOU CAN RESERVE FOR BOTH. This is through the reservation service at the Uffizi and costs beyond the normal entry fee only about 3 euro for the service. This is MUCH cheaper than the commercial booking services.

You will not be charged for the reservations unless you use them.

Have a nice visit.

You can call them but I find it simpler to just e-mail your hotel and ask them to reserve for you. You will not have to pay until you arrive at the museum.

In Rome, look into reserving for the Borghese Gallery and for a tour of the Vatican Museums. And, of course, the Scavi tour of the excavations below St. Peter's.

Hi Ira, you are telling me then that I can make a reservation let us say for day No.5 and if I go by the Uffici on day No.4 and the line is short and I feel going in I can do it no penalty, of course. I might do it, but probably I shall let them know I am not going to use the numbered reservation. Is this the way to go?

Just returned from Florence and there were absolutely no lines at either place so it depends on when you are going. I suspect from October thru March you'd just walk up and save 3 euros.

Yes! that is what I thought and on top they charge us
8 veersus 4 to the European Common Market. Actually I was carried away and called for a reservation but most likely I shall let it go and get in on my own.
Ira? so you said it was fine?

Yes.

You don't even have to let them know that you are not going to use your reservation.

Opposite the Uffizi ticket window entrance is a machine that does reservations for the next several days or so..same 5 euro i think surcharge and for all museums in Florence participating in the reservations scheme. The Uffizi is by the way undergoing a huge expansion and reorganization that has been going on for years and, in the Italian style, may continue for many years. It all started i guess when terrorists bombs blew up a portion of the museum, launching a renewal and significant expansion.

BTW - a surprising thing...i talked to my Florence hotel manager and asked him the price of my room in high season and he said high season in Florence is from April or Easter thru mid June...that this period was much more busier than july and August which i thought was the real mob scene...room prices were actually cheaper in Jul and Aug than in spring is the reason i asked him why.
He explained that the Italians come mainly in spring and in summer they flock to seaside resorts.
