RER to Madison Hotel
 

Would like your opinion on the best way to get to Madison Hotel (6th) considering price, time and ease.

One poster wrote that the RER is so easy due to location that a taxi would be a waste of time and money.

I thjink one "issue" might be that you would have to change (St. Michel-Notre Dame, I believe) in order to get the Metro which would take you even closer to the hotel.

There would also be the possibility of having to use stairs (as opposed to an escalator or lift) and, of course the final walk to the hotel's door.

I am sure the poster citing the ease, etc., had the best of intentions but there are times when a taxi is worth the money depending on your mood, abilities, priorities, etc.

I think that previous poster may have been right. I haven't taken this specific route so others should double check me on this.

At CDG board the RER at the front (nearest the escalators). When you arrive at Saint-Michel/Notre Dame, it should be a very short walk to the Cluny platform for metro Line 10, direction Boulogne. Take it 2 stops to Mabillon, about a block from the hotel.

At St Michel , you could take line 4 ( direction Porte d Orleans, and get off at St Germain , just across the street from the hotel. There is also a taxi stand on the corner of Pl St Michel and the Quai.

A taxi from the airport is the easiest and should run around 50 €

I don't agree with that at all, if that's what they said. The Madison isn't even near the RER, you have to transfer to the metro to get there. Whether a taxi is a waste of money due to that is opinion (time should be about a wash). I routinely take taxis to my usual hotel in Paris which is right near a metro stop because I don't want to fool with all the trains, transfers, etc., and want to walk out the door at CDG and get in a cab. It's convenience and comfort, not a matter of how close a metro stop is. If a hotel were practically right at a RER B stop, that would be another story, but the Madison is not.

You can also reach the Madison above ground by boarding the N° 96 bus at St-Michel (direction Gare Montparnasse) and riding to Croix Rouge. Then change to a N° 96 (direction Porte des Lilas) to Seine Buci. See the map:

Another vote for the taxi.

Or you can get in from the airport frugally and spend the money you save on an upgraded hotel room. One hour's slight discomfort vs. a week's luxury. Your call.

I'd like to know what kind of a week's luxury you can get at the Madison for a 35 Euro savings!!

It's more like €45 each way, so the number to use is €90. Divide that by five or six nights and you have something to work with.

Divide 90 E by 6 nights that's 15 Euro.. a standard double at the Madison goes for 180-235E per night..a deluxe starts st 320 E..15 euro gets you nada! Take a Taxi!

Who said it had to be the Madison? My point is: we get to make choices. I choose saving the €90 for something that's better value than a slightly more comfortable ride to and from the hotel.

Yeah, you are right if they are staying somewhere where 15 Euro will make a difference then fine.

Give us all a break.. some of us don't care about the price difference. St Michel has lots of elevators then stairs. Personally, I find it hard without luggsge !
