RER question from CDG to Marais area
 

If I buy an RER ticket at CDG is that ticket good all the way in the subway to my Marais hotel?
I don't have to buy another ticket when I change from the RER do I?

I'm going to very tired when I arrive in Paris and the last thing I want is to be busted for not having a valid ticket on my first hour in France!

No, as long as you don't leave the ticketed area during your transfer, your ticket is good.

No...if you buy a ticket to Paris, it is good to the city.

You just get on RER B at CDG and take it all the way to Chatelet-Les Halles if you are going to the west side of the Marais.

...or switch at Chatelet-Les Halles to Metro 1 (direction Vincennes) and get off at Hotel de Ville, St. Paul or Bastille to go further east into the Marais.

...or switch to Metro 5 at Gare du Nord to get off at Bastille.

You can also walk from Chatelet-Les Halles if your hotel is not to far east and you have only not-so-big rolling luggage. :-)

We like to stay at Hotel de Nice, on R. de Rivoli -- situated between Hotel de Ville and St. Paul.

I don't think you would get busted even if it didn't work, you wouldn't be allowed to leave the system (or enter it if it were invalid to change from the RER to metro). What is illegal is not having a ticket at all, I don't think most metro systems consider it an infraction if your ticket doesn't cover the full cost to destination, you just have to pay to make up the difference, often from a machine, or you cannot exit.

Hang on to your ticket until you have left the metro. They do occasionally stop people in stations to check they are holding a valid ticket.

Also...if you need any advice about getting from your plane to the RER, this is the place for it.

The numbering system of the RER stops (1 and 2) do not correspond to the terminal numbers (which are also not in order geographically on the CDGVAL shuttle).

If you are landing in T1 you take the shuttle to T3, which is where the RER Aeroport CDG 1 station is. There you can buy your tickets (and a Navigo card - need a photo - and weekly pass if that is appropriate for your needs).

Posters here can give you more precise advice about transport if they know when and at which terminal you are arriving, and how long you plan to stay.
