RER CDG (my apologies...)
 

i know that these questions have been asked many times before, and i DID try reading old forum posts to see if i could find the answer to my question.... but i couldn't. Therefore I am asking it here:

From what the forum says, in order to get to terminal 1, i MUST take the shuttle from terminal 2 to terminal 1. However, according to the RER schedule online it indicates that there are 2 RER stops: one for terminal 1 and another for terminal 2! Can someone please clear this up for me? (my flight is at terminal 1)

My second question: how much time do I need to show up before my flight at cdg? i tried looking up this info on their website but couldn't find anything. I will leave around 50 minutes of travelling time (fr gare du nord to terminal 1).... hopefully this will be enough.

In order to get from one terminal to another you should take the free 'navette' (shuttle) that circulates.

There are 2 RER stations:
- T2 has a station within the terminal, same area as you find the TGV station
- T1 has a station but it is offsite from the terminal, so you take the free shuttle from T1 to get to it.

So if you are trying to go from Paris -to- CDG via RER, then you get off at the Aeroport Charles de Gaulle T-1 stop, then take a short bus ride to the arrivals hall of T-1.

The RER ride from Paris to CDG is about 40 minutes. You should arrive for your checkin no less than 3 hours prior to departure, to ensure you have enough time to navigate, check in, and go through possibly 2 security checkpoints.

There is no RER station inside or near Terminal 1 - that said the RER Terminal 1 stop on schedules is misleading to us because it's actually the stand-alone RER station that is a few miles by free shuttle bus from terminal 1 ("navettes")
In your case you should get off at RER Terminal 1 stop and hop on the frequent navette buses waiting out front. Or you could get off the RER at Terminal 2 and take navettes to 1 from there but i think this would take longer and terminal 2 is a huge huge terminal to navigate.

Yes, there are two RER stations, CDG 1 and CDG 2 TGV. Take the RER B to CDG 1. Take the free shuttle bus to Terminal 1. (Just to complete the picture, CDG 1 also serves Terminal 3.)

If you are flying from CDG to the US, it would be good to get to the airport three hours ahead of your departure time. If you are flying somewhere within Europe, two hours or less would be sufficient. To be certain, check with your airline to see what their check-in deadline is.

i hope that i will be able to make it...the earliest that i can make it to gare du nord is 7 am (i am not in paris right now), and my flight is at 8:50..... yikes!!
or maybe i will cab it .....

Taking a taxi would probably be your fastest means since you would be taken directly from Gare du Nord to Terminal 1 without waiting for the shuttle bus at the CDG 1 station. Even so, I don't think you have a realistic chance of catching your flight. Do you have other options?

Adding to my previous post. By other options I mean something like changing your flight (probably difficult and costly) or staying in Paris the night before (probably your best choice).

It is my understanding the the American airlines will not process your checkin if you have less than 1 hour to departure, so you are treading on thin ice, I'm afraid.

roundbunny - where are you staying the night before. I know that there are mini-buses that serve CDG for miles around - some relatives once took one from Orleans because they had a really early flight.
Anyway i'd bet a lot of euros on you not making that flight the way it is now - even a cab can get stuck in traffic on the oft-clogged autoroutes to Roissy.

my flight is from paris to munich! i thought that we just needed to be there like 30 minutes ahead of time to check in... ????

are all of you 100% sure about this??? for flights (within europe) people always said that i needed 1 hour....!!
i cant leave my town right now (it's really small, there are no taxis/trains).

Unless someone has a better idea, I'll repeat my suggestion that you take a taxi from Gare du Nord to Terminal 1. Be the first person off the train, make a run for the taxi rank, and hope for the best.

You just need 1 hour to check in for european flights really. 1h30 mins if you want a bit of extra time for unforseen delays but 1 hour is fine.

No problem for a Schengen flight, but I try to be as cautious as possible so I always arrive too early for everything.
