Requiem in London?

I hope to be in London for a few days in mid March and am trying to see if I can find a performance of Mozart's Requiem while in town. I just missed one at St Martin-in-the-Fields (tonight!) and can't seem to turn up any others via Google. Does anyone have an idea of where/how I might check further?

bringing back to the top hopefully...

When you get here buy a copy of either Time Out or Saturday's Guardian (which has a whats on guide) and look at the classical section.

That will be a list of all the classical concerts in london that week. Hopefully one will be what you want.

If you want to check this in advance, there isn't a really, really, reliable webguide.

Especially for this kind of choral work: they're performed astonishingly frequently, but most often usually by high quality amateur choirs with professional soloists and players, either at services (though Mozart's Requiem rarely gets used at real masses) or as recitals. These ProAm dos don't get onto the websites.

Search "Mozart OR Mozart's Requiem March 2009" and limit your search to UK sites. DON'T include London in your search terms.

From the first couple of pages of results, I got:

Guildford cathedral, 1930 March 21
Peterfsfield Festival March 21
Singalong with the CBSO, Birmingham: April 5
Sheldonian Oxford, April 4

Then I got bored. But all these 4 venues are within 90 minutes train journey of central London, and all have lazte-night returning trains.

Those are helpful tips - thanks. Here's a stupid question - how do I limit my search to just UK sites? (and please don't let it be anything blindingly obvious!) I searched for hours yesterday and didn't turn up either the Guildford or the Petersfield events.

Use Britsh google:

google.co.uk

it has an option to spcify UK sites only.

Drat. Blindingly obvious. I tried to warn you. It's too late for me, save yourselves!

Thanks, though.

Thanks, cambe! Though the date is later in March than I'd like, plans can change!

avalon Feb 6th, 2009 09:58 AM

Thanks cambe, the date is just right for us. It's our last night in London.

Do the singalong.

You'll get better performances on any CD than you'll hear at the Abbey. But the opportunity to sing under Halsey's direction...

Unfortunately the April singalong date is out of the question. It would have been enjoyable (for me, not so much for the immediate bystanders). But thanks again for all the help.
