Taking a trip with my college aged daughter to Edinburgh Dublin and London need hotel recommendations

No possible way to give your any suggestions w/o at least your budget?

Also what sort of properties do you like?

Travelodge have good options in all 3 cities https://www.travelodge.co.uk/ nothing fancy but clean comfortable and not too expensive.

Time of visit and specific nightly budget please - if you want suggestions to meet your needs.

yes - there are TL's in all three cities - as well as a thousand+ other properties in central London and a couple hundred others in both Edinburgh and Dublin . . . but we don't know if the OP wants that sort of place.

(TLs are almost always clean -- and usually a good budget choice. But IME some are not 'comfortable' -- cross between a Motel 6 and a Holiday Inn Express)

We stayed at 53 Frederick in Edinburg and found it to be very good! You must be able to wrestle your suitcases up several flts of stars, but beyond that, very good! Amazing brkfst included at adjacent bar/rstrnt. Wonderful location!!

In Dublin stay over by Christ Church. That area is great for getting around but not as noisy as some other places. The Travelodge by St Stephen's Green is also a good location. Jury's Inn, Christ Church. The Harding, Christ Church are nice and not super expensive. I am a budget traveler.
In Edinburgh I like being close to the Royal Mile.
No help for London, have stayed closer to Airport and with friends outside of London.

In Edinburgh, we stayed at the Holiday Inn on Cowgate that is just a block off the Royal Mile and in walking distance of the train station, but the walking is over cobblestones so it would be bad with rolling suitcases. We took a cab, to the disgust of the driver I think, because it was such a short run.

This post is entirely too trollish. No budget listed, standard # of travelers, first-time post, no response from OP.

My guess it OP is expecting to get an e-mail notification (which will never come) that she has responses. It may be a while til we hear from her again.

I only posted in case she was a first timer and a bit scared of how this all works. This forum is very rough on first time posters. I would never come back after being reprimanded. Politeness and trying to help is not a bad attribute in my book. Rant over.

I don't think the OP is a troll. To me a troll is someone who says something obviously provocative to try and stir things up, not just someone who is a bit terse and/or lacking in detail that would help us to help them better.

But that doesn't alter the fact that it is hard to help anyone who doesn't provide a bit of info on their tastes and requirements - are they looking for somewhere corporate or somewhere boutiquey and quirky? Is it a must that they are within a certain distance of specific attractions or will anywhere in Zone 1-2 do? Are they looking for somewhere with family-type suites, or will standard separate rooms do fine?

Responses (I'm talking more generally now, not just this thread) are sometimes rude, of that there is no doubt, but equally, not even taking the time to provide a brief intro into what you are looking for could be construed as rude. I can still remember posts where people have asked Fodorites to put together an entire 2-3 week itinerary for them from scratch because they are 'too busy' to do it themselves. So please bear that in mind when condemning people for being (at first glance) less than helpful.

Also, there's just the basic issue of manners - 'Hi I am 30-something x/y and travelling to so and so. Trying to find a hotel with rooms for less that £120 a night in the such and such district. Would be grateful to hear any recommendations, thanks so much' goes down a lot better than an imperative telegram-style post.

I quite often wonder why I bother to answer questions on the foums, it's not often I have to question why some folk bother to answer.

For what its worth I suggested the Travelodge as good budget options for someone of moderate means with their late teen early 20's daughter. I also suggest Premier Inn's for Edinburgh on a regular basis. Not used one in London but would imagine them good options.

There were no rude responses on this post, only requests for information. The troll suggestion came late, and I can't imagine anyone being bothered by that especially if they hadn't yet responded. It is impossible to give appropriate advice if you have no information to go on. I agree completely with RM67. It works both ways.

You were rude to those of us that were being helpful. You have a habit of this and picking fights with many other people on forums. Your post to this op and many others have the same theme. Over it and will stay away from any post you reply to from here after.

Troll has two meanings - the firestarter described above, and someone who is fishing for information for use on his or her own commercial venture unrelated to this site but isn't so blatant as to proffer an advert(isement).

People on this board volunteer time, knowledge, and effort to answer questions. If you haven't asked a proper one or are just casting a line for information, it isn't "rude" to point that out considering that the volunteers are helping in lieu of something else they could do for themselves or someone else.
