(Repost) Overall cost of three weeks in Scotland??
 

Hey guys, me and my girlfriend are making our first trip out of the country to Scotland for three whole weeks in August!
I was just wondering what other people thought would be a good amount to save up for such a long trip?!
Notes: we have lodging taken care of and paid for.
Plane tickets/passports are paid for as well.
We are traveling by public transportation the whole trip.
In order we're arriving in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Inverness, Kyle/Skye, then back to Glasgow spending three-four days in each destination. (One week in Kyle/Skye)!
Any suggestions for spending money, food, activities etc would be awesome and very helpful!
Goals: trying to see a ton of castles, multiple whiskey distilleries, try new food and maybe hike and sightsee around Skye. Not afraid to branch out to other Islands from Kyle/Skye.

Update 1: We do want to check out the Tattoo we've heard a lot about, as we will be spending 3 days total in Edinburgh in the middle of August!

If you want to go to the Tattoo, you should get tickets as soon as possible. It sells out, and you should check now to see if anything is available for your dates.

As far as other offerings during the festival season in Edinburgh, many events are free, and there are all kinds of street performers as well. Look through the schedule (which is the size of a telephone book) and see if there are any performances you definitely want to see, and you can book tickets for those. You can look at the website for the fringe festival before you go for an idea of what you want to see and to book tickets.

I can't give any advice on overall cost; however you can check out the activities you are interested in and restaurant menus to get an idea of costs, as well as finding costs for transportation and admission to castles and other sites.

You can save money on food easy. We really didn't see much for breakfast around our hotel but there was a Marks and Spencer so would get take out and go sit in the park. I loved the fruit selection and to go options. Pub food can run around 10 pounds each. Our bar tab is what gets us. We tried eating at a couple of nice places in Edinburgh but no reservations so no seat. Plan ahead if you decide on dining at somewhere nicer. I was craving salmon and we could not get a seat on a weeknight in May.
I don't find admission prices to be that high. Sterling castle was 15 pounds, Edinburgh castle was 17. Parliament was free and the national museums are free.

We don't drink at all, although I occasionally have a glass of red wine with dinner. We drank water with every meal, so our dinner costs don't include any drinks.
