REPORT ON PACKING CUBES PLEASE
 

What has been you experience in using the packing "cubes" made by Eagle Creek? Are they worth the cost or did you find them to be just a minor convenience? Couldn't one do the same thing with extra large plastic food storage bags, the ones that are perforated for veggies and fruits? <BR><BR>Just curious

Glad or Hefty Freezer bags work very well and are much less expensive.

We love them. we have sets of 2 different sizes. In the larger ones i can roll knit shirts and sweaters and lay pants out. Then when looking for something in my suitcase I just lift the entire pack out by its handle. The smaller ones I use for underwear and socks. I also use zip-locks but these are really much better. But, I don't think i paid full price for them I think I got them on closeouts from travelsmith or sierratrading.

Had to let you know that Eagle Creek is available at Costco here in CA-a set of three for $20.00.

I really like them, in fact, I just gave the set from Costco as part of a gift!<BR>1) As part of the new searching of checked luggage, I was able to watch them search, and they did not open up wither my kit bag or the cubes, and it seems to make it easier for them to repack-<BR>2) I can fit 2 days of clothes and pj's into the regular size - I have just carried this plus my toiletries bag in when I didn't feel like lugging my entire suitcase somewhere. <BR>I use just one in most cases, and have felt that it really was worth the $14.

The trouble with plastic baggies is that it is hard to find the 2 gallon size, and the one gallon size is a bit too small. Inadvertly, I found that if you stand your luggage on wheels up, rather than laying it down, and &quot;stack&quot; your packing bags or cubes, you can fit more than when your lugguage is lying down. I don't know why, but it works everytime for me.

I'm a big fan of the larger Eagle Creek packing cubes. They're great for packing button-down shirts and trousers and skirts. I find that it's much easier to pack things without them getting wrinkled and sliding around with the cubes. For the smaller cubes that fit socks and such I think that it works just as well to use Ziploc bags. Also, I don't mind that they search my bag but I hate that my clothes get messed up and wrinkled in the process, I think that they usually just pat down the packing cubes.

I own Eagle Creek packing cubes and a couple of longer, double-sided mesh rectangles from Outdoor Research, and they really help organize my packing! I can fit more into them if I roll things up, but even if I just fold and stack things in them, I like having separate &quot;containers&quot; for different groupings of clothing. Plus, when we stay places that are short on dresser drawer space (like the riverside chalets at Beckers), I just lift the cubes out of my tote and use them as portable drawers.

I've never wanted to pay the price for the packing cubes, so I use those clear plastic zippered bags that bed linens come in. They work great and the price is right.

Target carries the large size zip lock bags. They work great and are tons cheaper than the cubes. I always take an extra one or two just in case one sports a leak or gets a hole. I find that zipping things inside and squeezing out the air looks like a wrinkled mess, but actually keeps things must LESS wrinkled upon arrival.

I used storage bags (knock-off &quot;Space Bag) from Target at $5.95 for three pack (2 smaller and 1 large bag). Works just as good.<BR>

I second the use of the plastic, zippered bags linens come with. They come in different sizes too and keep things organized just as well. I also like the use of the 2-gallon Ziplocs. Call me thrifty, but I don't like the idea of spending money for these cubes when there are alternatives that work just as well.
