Report on Hôtel le Madison
 

We spent three very comfortable days at the Madison last week. Our room, #23 (on the corner, facing the boulevard), was recently redecorated in shades of lovely soft greens, with fern-patterned wallpaper edged in deep gold braid.

The spacious room had two beds and a very nice daybed covered in green velvet, with back cushions suspended from a brass rod. There was a closet for hanging clothes plus a separate section of shelves, together with a substantial chest of drawers. Next to the closet was a wide three-shelf unit for holding luggage and other things.

The room also held a very pretty desk near the tall windows that look out onto the church of St-Germain-des-Prés. In front of the windows was a lovely little pale-green-velvet slipper chair.

The bathroom had two sinks, a bathtub with a good shower (and curtain!!!) AND laundry line, as well as a bidet. The towels were large and thick.

Our friend's room also faced the boulevard. That room's walls were patterned in an interesting flower-and-elephant design that I really liked; the other colors were shades of blue. The attractive room next to our own was done in blue and white toile. The redecorated halls are now yellow and blue, very bright and cheerful even on darkish days.

The desk staff were helpful and amiable--no problems at all, even when we couldn't remember which restaurant we had reserved for our initial night.

The room price from Orbitz was 220 Euros, not including breakfast, making the room an excellent buy in terms of quality versus price. The atmosphere was more like that of a private home than a hotel, and the hotel is in the thick of the St-Germain area--just two blocks from the Rue de Buci and Paul's and a block from a Monoprix.

So--we were very happy again with the Madison and would strongly recommend it for charm, comfort, and location.



Aside from the fact that my husband found his bed too hard (he likes a very soft mattress), we had absolutely no complaints and will definitely return to the Madison any time we're in Paris.

Hi Jean, Welcome home. I am eager to hear all about your trip! Btw, I asked Chateau de Cottun about a room for next June, and they said they were unsure they would be letting rooms next summer. Did you know that from your stay there?

I'm also looking forward to your trip report--a vicarious visit to France is better than no France at all!

Alas, the Château de Cottun may not be operating as a B&B next year. That's a great shame, as our stay there was like being with good friends--and a lovelier environment would be hard to imagine. I hope things work out so that the B&B will be able to welcome future visitors as it did us.

Do you have any idea what the problem is? I am disappointed! I have found another place that will work, even though I still really wanted to stay at the Chateau.

Jean, So glad your stay at the Madison was good. My husband and I have stayed there twice, it is our favorite hotel in the sixth arr. Just one question, I thought breakfast was always included at the Madison as part of the room rate. Has this recently changed? Take care...

Breakfast is included at regular rates but apparently not with Internet specials. In any event, the delightful Paul's is just a two-block walk.

I read about a hotel in St. Germain here on the boards with a view of the Church St. Germain and darn if I can't find that post again. Could it possibly be the Madison?

Definitely the Madison: it's right across the Blvd. St-Germain from the church of St-Germain-des-Prés.
