Could the 4 of you go and stay in boutique hotels or the like? It seems like trying to please 8 people in daily activities would be a nightmare anyway.

now that you are down to 4 I would recommend the Maison Laurence just outside of Vence. It is not luxurious (no pool) but very authentic and charming as is the owner. It is very reasonabley priced. The web site is:
www.luxomedia.com/clients/maisonlaurence.

What about Aix? It is a larger and lively town for nightlife and tons of restaurants. It's relatively close and easy access to the sea.
No specific villa or gite recommendations for you as we love staying IN town, not out, but I know there are a number of them around there.

I think some of the things you want aren't that possible. I don't think you'll find clubs in a small village of less than 10K population, nor a fun nightlife--although there should be cafes and restaurants. I liked Vaison-la-Romaine very much, but it's not near the sea. It actually seems a little larger than it is, I thought.

highly recommend st remy versus some of the others on the list, as you'll have much more to do in the village -- many shops and restaurants, even a little cinema -- whereas staying in some of the other pretty towns (gordes, rousillon, lourmarin) will mandate a drive of up to an hour to eat out, shop, etc.

should you decide that st remy is your choice, please email me for a house in town with three bedrooms, a pool, privacy, just a quick walk into the village...
