Renting Sport / Luxury Cars

My wife and I are travelling to Europe next month. We would like to rent sport/luxury European cars. Does anybody know where I can find information on that or specialized companies in this kind of rentals? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi, You don't say which country you want to rent the car in nor which country you are residing in because if you are in the US in you reserve your car here. If you are going to Germany that is the cheapest country (usually) to rent from. Here are some to start with AVIS 1-800-331 1084 OR 1800 297-4447-ASK FOR INTERNATIONAL DIVISION- ANOTHER IS BUDGENT RENT A CAR1-800-472-3325, DOLLAR RENT A CAR, KNOWN AS EURODOLLAR IN EUROPE 1800-800-6000, HERTZ NATIONAL IS KNOWN AS EUROPAR ABROAD 1800-227-3876--US COMPANIES THAT SPECIALIZE IN EUROPEAN CAR ENTALS ARE AUTO-EUROPE 1800-223-5555 AND EUROPE BY CAR 1800-223-1516 AND BON VOYAGE BY CAR 1900-272-3299.

ALSO LOTS OF GOOD WEBSITES IF YOU LIKE TO SURF THE NET, JUST GO INTO A SEARCH ENGINE AND TYPE IN "CAR RENTALS IN EUROPE OR YOU CAN TYPE IN A SPECIFIC COUNTRY"

Mercedes-Benz has a car rental site I found in Alta Vista that says they rent cars in Uk but I couldn't access anything specific on it but you can E-Mail them, so go into www.merceds-benz.co.uk/05.htm and click on E-mail to send message

Hi! Just returned from Germany and Austria where
we toured both countries in a Mercedes from Hertz.
We wanted something large enough for 4 people &
luggage.(Thought we were getting a Maxima as that was
price range we paid). We were surprised & thrilled
to have a Mercedes substitute. Germany is probably
your best bet in renting a luxury car.

Roberto,

Fly to Germany and rent a car.
The major carrental companies all have MB, BMW. Make up your mind first what car you want to rent. See the sites for examples. Be aware you are not allowed to travel to Eastern Europe, Italy countries with expensive cars.

Contact autoeurope at 800-223-5555. You can rent it all--Porche, Ferrari, BMW and more. Plus they have some of the best prices around. A Ferrari for only $5,500 a day! Have fun.

Last fall I rented a BMV 5 series, from autonet.com -- they specialise in European rentals and curiosly enough, are based in Atlanta, Ga.
I picked up the car at a Europcar garage in downtown Munich. The charges were far less than what the big names, HertzBudgetAvis charge.

Do you think renting this type of car makes one a more obvious target for some of the scams I've read about in Spain in Italy? I think it would be fun to rent a BMW, but I would hate to think that was like wearing a sign that said "Tourist with money! Rob me!"

I went to autonet.com and I can't see anywhere that they rent-they sell, but maybe I am missing something-can topoftheworld who suggested this site help out here?

thanks

Sorry Jeanne, it was autoerope, as in http://www.autoeurope.com/cgi-bin/AE.exe

I got a 5 speed 520i from these guys. I went Whoosh... the first 2 days and then slowed down and took the country roads.

Beth, most of the people on the road in BMW's in Germany are not tourists. It's not as if you've rented a lomo. It is a very popular make in Bavaria, where it is built at the Bavarian Motor Works,
hence the name.

topoftheworld Mar 27th, 1999 04:35 PM

What kind of an idiot would rent a lomo?
I don't even know what that is...
I meant limo.
