I find these prices very expensive if you're planning to rent a phone. Why don't you buy a phone with a prepaid card? They cost about 80 euros but you get and inicial bonus of 25 euros and you don't get charged by incoming calls, you only pay outgoing calls.

Topping for David Bond.

I think "teener" did sell the phone she bought from me. Maybe it can be sold once again to you!
Looking to purchase disposable ( I know, I know) phone in France next month. I check Rex's suggestions but a little more than I want to spend. I am looking for something around $80.00 US and get 20 - 30 minutes of call time. Any other suggestions? You can get these things at 7/11 in the states or Japan, is it as prevelent in France? Thanks

80 dollars IS what I spent. And I got $25 of phone time which was way more than 20-30 minutes.
Rex,

Which service did you use? Both autoeurope and worldcell were over $100.00

Thanks

I didn't rent. I purchased. An Ericcson phone, from Wind. I'm amazed that I didn't clarify all that in any previous post. I guess I spelled it out to "teener" when I sold it to her.

Rex, please help! It's true that there is lots implicit in this thread, like: where do you buy the famous phone (of teener fame)? I rented last time in Italy--sounded very reasonable--and got socked with a $700 bill when we got home (called the states for messages four times and made restaurant reservations). I want prepaid so places like VoiceStream won't con you! Is there a brand name store in Italy I can look for, or ??

Sometimes it is nice not to be in touch with people all the time. Seriously. You might actually enjoy the scenery, the sights, the country you are in if a phone is not up at your ear the entire time.
