Renting Boat-Sorrento to Capri

Hello Everyone

We are going to Sorrento mid September. Does anyone know if it is possible to rent our own boat and go to Capri or down the Amalfi coast? We would prefer to do this on our own if possible.

Thanks so much!

I looked into something similar when we were there and I know you can hire a private boat and driver but I'm not sure about renting a boat on your own. There is a website which I believe is Capri.net where you might be able to find more info.

Kristy - What kind of boat are you looking for?

Here are a few links for the Amalfi Coast:

Hope this helps ...

I read your post with great interst. I was torn with the decision of Positano or Portofino. We chose Positano and stayed at the Le Sireneuse. It doesn't get any better!!! Positano is magical and much better than Sorrento which is large. If you stay at Le Sireneuse they have a yacht which is included in the room price. They take you out and you can swim and boat in such style. It is the very best! I highly recommend it.
Go for at least 1-2 nights as it will get you through any long winter just remembering it! My daughter who is now 25 feels the same way.

We chartered a boat with a captain/driver from Amfalfisails and were very pleased. We thought it was the best way to see Capri and the surrounding areas. I am not sure they will rent you a boat without a driver, but I would say you want a driver anyway; as he can take you to all the little bays around Capri and other places which you would not know about. Also, he can drop you at the pier in Capri and you can explore the island for a few hours and shop. All that would be very difficult on your own unless you speak Italian, as you would need to dock the boat, etc. We hired for about 12 hours and came back to Amalfi as the sun was setting over Capri -- beautiful!

Hi Skipper,

Have you got your charts of the area?
