Renting an apartment in Nice in July

I wrote here earlier about staying 6 nights in Nice in July with my boyfriend. Thanks to the great comments, I have now decided to stay in Old town.

I am wondering if anybody knows anything about holiday apartments, such as Go-Nice, Nice pebbles, or Your nice apartment. Would it be naive to book something like that? Is it safer to go for a fairly dodgy hotel at the same price? In some countries, this kind of holiday rental is illegal, is that the case in France?

Thankful for some input here

I don't recognise the rental companies you mention, but in general it's a good idea for 6 nights. You will see beautiful food in the markets. Try the socca, and be absolutely sure you have air conditioning!

We rented an apartment in Nice for a week over Christmas a few years ago and loved it. I found Nice Pebbles on the SlowTrav website and put my apartment review on there afterwards. They were good to deal with and the apartment was great.

I think apartment renting in France is very common but it is sensible to do some checking to see if companies are legitimate.

Nice Pebbles were absolutely fully booked for the dates we picked, at least in the old town. So we decided to go with Go-Nice, so I hope they are good. I found good reviews on Tripadvisor, so I hope we won't get scammed or anything.

Sadly, I just realised there is no airconditioner!
We are going to stifle in the heat in July.

You could also try www.homelidays.com. We have had great luck with this venue--it's kind of like vrbo.com and found a great place in Nice 1/2 block from the Promenade des Anglais at a great price last October.

Bellarosa is definitely correct about vrbo.com being a good resource. Another excellent rental site is www.homeway.com

Rentals are permitted in France. Please be certain to ask lots of questions (for example, number of square meters) and ask if you may contact former tenants.
