Renting a Mercedes Vito (lincasanova, are you there?)

I need to rent what is described as a Mercedes Vito, rated at 9 passengers and 8 pieces of luggage (which strikes me as overly optimistic), for a group of eight in Spain. I am concerned that the Vito is a "small" 9-passenger rather than a "large" one, meaning the seating will accommodate 9 but it's really a bit cramped – or a lot cramped.

I have rented-leased 9-PAX vans many times in Europe and know there are vehicles that are fine for 8 and even 9, and those that really don't work for such a number.

Besides crowding in the passenger area, some vans have a quite small luggage space, probably about 18 inches deep (by the usual several feet wide and high), which is quite limiting.

Any advice that anyone could give me about their experience with this vehicle, including photos, if you have them, would be most welcome.

(I realize that I may not get a Vito after all this, and that different rental agencies may have a given brand/model but with different specs, but I am playing the odds here.)

Many thanks in advance.

lincasanova is in the United States right now. Her internet access has been limited. We had breakfast together a few days ago, but she'll be back in Spain soon.

A Mercedes Vito seats 9 people - 3 per row of 3, including the driver.

I owned one for a few months, the seats are triple bench seats (thought he driver does get his/her own seat), and there's plenty of room for 8 adults.

Although I believe the newer versions have individual seats that can be moved?

Anyway, there is a decent space behind the final row of seats, but I would question 8 pieces of luggage fitting into it - that's if they are anything much bigger than carry-on size.

Both the VW Transporter or Caravelle seem to be bigger - and a very quick glance at this website seems to back this theory up...

Julia and HKTO, thank you! This is very helpful. Especially the luggage area (expressed in liters) gives me a fighting chance to figure things out.

If anyone else has insights, I would love to hear them.

When I have had customer here driving one of there there was little room for luggage for every one.
But when hiring you can get a different car of the same class
