Renting A Car InAt Airport In Budapest , where to go?

I arrive in Budapest on Aug.2, and thought about renting a car at the airport for three days and traveling to some small cities, around Budapest. Have you got any ideas?
Originally, I was going to stay the whole eight days in Budapest, but thought this also would be nice to do to break it up. The hotels in Budapest were really expensive on the 2nd & 3rd of August, when I arrive, so that is why i also thought of this. I got the Best Western Hotel Hungaria for the 4,5,6,7, and 8th at $180 a night.
What would you do? Should I do 3 or 4 days traveling in a car, and rest in the city at this hotel, or just stay in the city the whole eight days, and search for a cheaper hotel for the first two nights?
By the way, has anyone stayed at this Hotel, and did you like it?
Help, Help!!

just a heads up.. i saw the hungaria for 98 euros including tax and breakfast on www.gtahotels.com

you DO know that it is 2 km from the chain bridge?

There are a lot of nice 4 star hotels closer to the river for what you have been quoted for the BW or less.

check out the marriot executive millenium apartments. sometimes their rates are very reasonable, and the location is great.

lake balaton will be crowded in august.. but i hear it is very beautiful.

We enjoyed a restaurant about 2 km northwest of central Pest, recommended to us our first night by our hotel clerk. I had GREAT misgivings when she said it was a buffet (terrible mind pictures of tepid, tasteless food). Much to my surprise (wife less skeptical), the food was hot, tasty/delicious, labelled in English, with excellent service. We paarticularly enjoyed it because we could read the Hungarian words next to the English label, so that we could learn what NOT to order at other restaurants in Hungary later in our visit. The only downside was, none of the food was even mediocre. Suffice to say, if we went back to Budapest, that would be our first stop.

When we went four years ago, they only had one restaurant. Now four?
Must be I'm not the only one impressed. If you go, go to the one on the left of the website Ersebet 1145

Oh, we also liked Eger. Sopron not so much, but a little.

There are tons of great cities to visit, depending on things you like to do...

HOw about Eger and the wine areas, there are really nice...
