Renting a car

I will be renting a car in Florence for 2-3 days to tour Tuscany and returning it at the same place. Any suggestions of best rates or companies to deal with?

I receommend you check www.autoeurope.com

SFtravlr, if you go to the top of the page and enter car rental Florence, you will find a whole list of threads on this topic. You may want to read through these past topics; I was just looking at some of them, and saw good suggestions about car rentals, as well as where to park your car in Florence once you get it.

A lot of new posters don't understand that you can search for older information, so please don't take the comments of metellus personally -- you are not alone!

I've just received my AutoEurope voucher for a three week Italy rental and this is the email from Andy Bestor...

...We guarantee the lowest rates. If you find a better deal, call us and we will beat it (upon confirmation).

For more information, or to book, call us at 1-800-521-6722x.1, or reply via email.

Thanks for the help! Although it seems Metellus is a sarcastic jerk. Must be very lonely.

SFtravlr. I have been recently looking for car rentals in Italy too.

Some of the best prices I found were on www.affordablecarrentals.com

Good luck.

based on this message I just checked car rental rates and affordablecarrentals.com had the best rates...has anyone used them? Any problems?

"Thanks for the help! Although it seems Metellus is a sarcastic jerk. Must be very lonely."

My thoughts exactly.

Hope the jerk doesn't ever want help wiht his trips.

Also, I used Avis in Tuscany and was very pleased. However, I tend to find AutoEurope just has better rates. Remember you will have to buy insurance in Italy.

Make sure and shop around. The pricing for just a few days can seem steep.
At least twice autoeurope would not match the discounts I got with other agencies. You might search Flyer talk in their auto rental forums. You might find some discount codes that apply to specific rental car companies.

Hi AnnieV - No experience with that company - but I nearly always find MAGGIORE offer the best rates.

Hope this helps ...

Hi all,

It is always a good idea to shop different rental sites.

Gemut and AE almost always give a better price than the ones you find elsewhere. If they can't, they will tell you why.

Often it is because the other company is leaving out some fees that have to be paid.

RECENT EXPERIENCE: I booked a car with Gemut for our upcoming visit to Europe.

I subsequently found a lower rate at one of the AutoEurope European sites.

Andy arranged for the lower rate for me, translated to USD at that day's bank exchange rate, and waived the CDW requirement.

I checked the rates at Affordable.

Oddly enough, they don't have an availability listed for Munich Airport. I would have to pick up at one of the train stations.

Anyway, for the same car, same time frame they want 40% more than Gemut.

Try www.travelsupermarket.com
Great for hire cars amongst other things. I would suggest going for a firm that has a desk at the airport and not mett & greet. I made that mistake once in Budapest - never again.
