rental cars in great britain

We plan to rent a car in Edinburgh in September and drop it off in London 17 days later. Do you know a car rental agency with good rates? Has anyone used 1st UK car rentals. the price seems good - are they reliable?

Hi.

We are doing pretty much the same thing; we'll pick up our car in Edinburgh and drop it at Heathrow about eight days later.

I did a lot of shopping using Google and domestic agencies. Try: Auto Europe. Britain Car, Kemwel, Europcar, Hertz, Avis, Budget, Alamo, etc. They all have elaborate websites where you can specify what your needs are and get a quote.

The best deal I found was Alamo. Not only did they offer the best rate (with a very easy to use website), but it seemed to be the only outfit that charges you for only the time you have the car. We will pick up the car on Saturday, August 3 at 10:00 A.M. and drop it on Sunday, September 7 at 11:00 A.M. Almost all places would charge us for nine days rental. Alamo is charging us for one week (at the weekly rate), plus one day plus one hour. Pretty good, as well as refeshing in its fairness.

Good luck.

I just rented a car from EuropCar for Inverness and I found their website and information easy to navigate. They weren't the absolute best price but their office is down the street from our hotel whereas, the other companies were at the airport which was out of our way.

We rented from skycars.com, who must be a consolidator for Alamo/National. Our original reservation was directly with Alamo, we got the exact same vehicle (through Skycars) for $200 less. Our vehicle only have 83 miles and was very clean. Anything else you might want to know, just ask...

We have always used AutoEurope for all UK car rentals- we have done it 3 times and never been disappointed....

They even have a program where they give you a cell phone for the duration of the car rental for free--you just pay for incoming and outgoing calls...But I consider it a safety factor when driving in an area I know nothing about...

How much are you guys getting charged extra, to drop off the car at a different place than you picked it up?
