Rental car while in Ireland

Hello, I am traveling to Ireland in May and planning on renting a car for 6 days. I was originally going to use Dan Dooley, but I have been reading some poor reviews. Just wondering what rental company most people use?

We used Dan Dooley twice with great success. No problems whatsoever.

Any Irish rental company will have bad reviews.. Dooley are one of the better ones when it comes to saying exactly what you will pay and what you will get for what you pay.. If coming from the US you can book direct with their US office.. Easytourireland link direct to Hertz and get good press. Otherwise just book direct with the company that will be giving you the keys.. see also http://goo.gl/RVUQbu

GEMUT is a typical recommendation if renting in Germany.. Never heard of them recommended in Ireland except by one someone who has never rented in Ireland but puts himself forward as the Oracle on TA's forum.. be careful advice is taken from people with experience!

We rented from Dan Dooley last May and they were great. We booked through the U.S. office. No problems at all.

Please remember that some levels of American credit card companies will not extend their usual insurance to cover car rentals in Ireland.

Allianz won't cover a rental in Ireland. Nine dollar a day for other countries but nothing for Ireland. :) You see a lot of hanging mirrors on cars and bent in hubcaps.

We rented from Dan Dooley in October. Excellent experience. Chase Sapphire does provide rental car coverage in Ireland if using thier card.

I returned from Ireland last night and rented a car for 6 days. I used Easytourireland.com and worked with Conn. I opted for all extra insurance and there were no hidden fees. Conn works with Hertz and the Hertz people were easy to work with as well. The bad news is no coverage covers wheels and tyres and we had a mishap which the insurance didn't cover. But we had the tired replaced before we turned in the rental back to Hertz and had no issues. I would use Easytourireland.com again in a heartbeat.

I got back last week and used Autoeurope (booked through the German Autoeurope website) which contracted with Budget; the rate was great (120e for 6 days) and it included full insurance coverage. When picking up the car, the Budget agent tried everything in the book to try to sell additional insurance (asking if I'd rented in Ireland before and then commenting on the hazards of driving in Ireland; saying I would have to pay for any damage even though I had insurance, and I said no problem I would get reimbursed; saying that tire damage was still not covered, and this is the "most common" form of damage; charging $1350 to my credit card as an insurance guarantee; intimating that the drivers in Northern Ireland, where I was going, were maniacs). Still, got an automatic at the same price as the manual, which was nice. He said the car had no prior damage but when I went out to get it there were scratches on both sides and actual dents in the rear so I came back and had those documented.

No problem when returning at all, though.
